Chuck Willis - one of the TRUE progenitors of soul music, genuine pioneer of jump-blues of the early 1950's  and a vocalist extraordinaire (and our personal R&B hero), a man whose voice deeply affected everyone from Otis Redding to Sam Cooke to Al Green - only recorded two albums in his lifetime, although he was a huge success and a consistent chart-hitter. This, the his first studio album, includes the cream of the crop of his Okeh and Epic recordings (1952-56) and is one of the greatest rhythm and blues vocal showcases knows to us. This is simply a work of brilliance, a genius at work. If you are left unimpressed by this simple, unadorned, yet emotionally devastating, evocative voice, you’d better check your pulse

 (IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we  grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)

(a)          CAUTION! The vinyl is only VERY GOOD -- TO GOOD++, with multiple, numerous, small scuffs and scratches which are BOTH visible AND audible. The record plays with light and tolerable BUT AUDIBLE surface noise and occasional pops and clicks. The record plays without skipping throughout. This record WAS play-graded.

We could not "feel" these abrasions with our fingertip, and we suspect that they are NOT audible.

(b)          The record has a "deep groove" (an indent in the label about 1/2-inch from the edge of the label, which on SOME labels is associated with very early or first pressings).

(c)           The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(d)          Stereo copies of this album are NOT known to exist.

(e)           Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

THE COVER IS ABOUT VERY GOOD+ (VG+)

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-        Cover has all three seams (top, bottom and spine) partially split,  as follows:

-        Top seam: between 1 and 2 inches  / 2.5 to 5 centimeters. This split seam was delicately taped by the previous owner with a piece of transparent scotch tape

-        Bottom seam: between 1 and 2 inches  / 2.5 to 5 centimeters. This split seam was delicately taped by the previous owner with a piece of transparent scotch tape

-        Spine: between 4 and 6 inches  / 10 to 15 centimeters.

-         Cover has some visible fraying/tattering on the spine

-         Cover has some light ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and  10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 3 (front side) and 4 (back side)

-         Cover shows some light yellowing on back side, apparently from aging.

-         Cover has a sticker residue (partially peeled remnants of the price sticker or some other sticker; the buyer can probably remove these small, still affixed bits and pieces of the sticker with a minor effort)

-         Back cover has some light yellowish stains, probably from exposure to humidity (nothing significant)

-         Cover has two corners slightly worn / dinged  (nothing significant)

-         Tiny, barely visible peel-off mark noted on front panel (less than 1/16th square inch in size)

-         Cover has a visible wrinkle (crease) in the cardboard base on the front panel

NO OTHER IMPERFECTIONS ON THE COVER:

-        No cut-out (drill) holes.

-        No cut-out corners

-        No saw-marks or indents

-        No writing

-        No stamps

-        No mold or mildew spots

-        No water damage

-        No razor marks, scratches, pressure marks, lines, streaks, or  cuts.

-        No warping

-        No wax, glue, paint or liquid drops on the cover

-        No glue traces or wax residue.

-        No bar codes

-        No RIAA stamps or stickers.
