This record is part of an amazing selection of vinyl which I have inherited. The music spans from 50's - 90's including rockabilly,country,classical, rock'n'roll, blues, rock, jazz,latin, funk, soul/northern soul, reggae, ska and afrobeat, hip hop and r&b... which I will be listing over the next few months. There are lots of rarities, although there are some reproductions of hard to find records. I am not a connoisseur neither do I claim to be an expert. I am just a music lover who appreciates good music. I will be grading by visual inspection and listening to the record. Condition (Disc/Sleeve): EX+/EX  The original luster is very much intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new. Labels are clean and wear free. Cover is in excellent condition one or two minor creases and some slighting foxing on back cover in a couple of places. Edges are sharp and crisp with no bends,tears or splits.

Comments:  Collectors Item!! UK 1965 original press and incredibly rare Black Chess logo with Gold Print,thick heavy vinyl pressing in thick cardboard cover, American style. "Chuck Berry In London" (not to be confused with the 1970's "Chuck Berry London Sessions")

This album, along with "St. Louis to Liverpool" and "Fresh Berry's", constitutes part of Chuck Berry's lost Chess years, and, for most listeners, a broader "lost period" for Berry. At the time, his music was never more widely copied and covered, courtesy of the British invasion bands streaming into the U.S. in person and on record, yet he couldn't chart a single or get top bookings in the U.S. Chuck Berry In London has its feet planted in 1965, offering harder blues-based numbers like "Why Should We End This Way" and "I Got a Booking," both influenced by Big Bill Broonzy (the latter, in particular, is Berry's rewrite of "Key to the Highway"), along with lean hot-rockers like "St. Louis Blues" and the loud, sneering "I Want to Be Your Driver." The latter was a clear influence on Bob Dylan's "Obviously Five Believers," and demonstrates that Berry was still an influence on rock & roll as late as 1965. Therein lies the beauty of this record — it shows Berry evolving as a singer and guitar player, exploring sides of his music and persona in a very contemporary way, and not at all awkwardly. He does revert back to past formula here and there — "His Daughter Caroline" is the kind of sentimental ballad that Berry used to insert between his classic rock & roll on his early albums, in attempt to break the mood and vary the pacing. "Jamaica Farewell" and the Spanish-flavored "The Song of My Love" are more diverting and successful. 

No reserve! Doesn't come round that often....don't sleep on this one!!

GRADINGS ARE AS FOLLOWS:

M = never been played or used

NM = Visually none or a few light hairline marks, plays clean with a crisp fidelity throughout.Looks as if you just got it home from a new record store and removed the shrink wrap.

VG+ = Some light visible marks,slight scuffs or very light scratches.May show some signs of wear that doesn't affect one's listening experiences.Still plays clean with a crisp fidelity throughout.

VG = Several light hairline marks and light scratches(deep enough to feel with fingernail) that will affect sound and groove wear becomes noticeable.Still plays well with only occassional quiet surface noise and/or click.

G = Loss of lustre to vinyl. several scratches and heavy marks, will play without  sticking or jumping but will have surface noise throughout

F = Looks and plays bad, possibly skips. Plenty of hiss, clicks, or pops.

P = Just a collection filler, to look at.

Please note there may be a difference between grading with a (+/-) , all this means is that there is a very slight upgrade/downgrade.
