CHROMEOne of the original forefathers in the industrial boom of the 1980s, Chrome's amalgam
of distorted guitars and vocals, samples from TV, and a raw punk aesthetic (inspired by the Stooges)
became much more popular in the early '90s than it ever was while the band was around in the '70s and '80s.
Although active for only six years, Chrome left behind a huge discography, including nine full LPs
(several of which were released posthumously) and numerous EPs and singles.
Chrome were formed in San Francisco around 1976 by vocalist/drummer Damon Edge,
vocalist/guitarist Mike Low, guitarist John Lambdin, and bassist Garry Spain;
each played other instruments as well, including tape machines, electric violin, and Moog.
Chrome's sound wasn't quite fully formed by the time of their first album, The Visitation;
it's surprisingly poppy with few hints of what was to come,
though an obsession with science fiction made its debut. Second album Alien Soundtracks
was the true genesis for Chrome, thanks in part to new member Helios Creed,
who joined after the departure of Low. Creed's grinding guitar attack and Edge's tape manipulation
on tracks like "All Data Lost" and "Chromosome Damage"
would characterize the Chrome sound for years to come

A truly unique record by an equally unique band; influences range from 70’s glam, hard rock and early punk to sci-fi and industrial sounds.
I wouldn’t call any but the first two tracks “Punk”, and I suppose the purists will cringe at the thought of synth soundscapes
and experimental tape loops that take a lot more room. But if you’re not limited to the usual KBD punk you should at least
check this out once - it’s a truly courageous, important, entertaining record. And by the way,
I can’t believe all those Disco Punk bands still haven’t covered “Slip it to the Android” yet...(FLEX)
With Creed recruited to replace original member Mike Low, Chrome started kicking into high gear at last. While Spain and Lambdin
weren't out of the picture yet, cowriting half the songs with Edge, Creed's mind-melting guitar swiftly took prominence,
turning a wiggy band into a total headtrip.The artwork adds to the weird effect -- a hand-colored late fifties 'cool' living room
and busty babe setup with the band's and album name hand-scrawled in usual Chrome fashion over it, plus huge disembodied
eyes and lips that make everything really disturbing. Overall, the combination of screwy sound and art on a budget placed
Chrome as something like West Coast cousins of early Pere Ubu and Destroy All Monsters -- not a bad place to be ...(AllMusic)
