"BUZZ WITH THE FUZZ / YOU'RE THE ONE"
CHRIS FARLOW (FARLOWE) & THE THUNDERBIRDS
VERY RARE COLOMBIA DEMO DB 7614
This record was withdrawn making it a very rare find. Plays very well on my Michell Synchro record deck. One sold on ebay in Feb 2005 for £150, a non Demo copy went for £239. Wet and dry cleaned on my Moth RCM record cleaner this is a fantastic clean copy of this rare record which I have graded conservatively.

What's on offer?: The SIMPLY FANTASTIC and MONSTER RARE Freakbeat R&B Mod gem (especially in this condition called "Buzz With The Fuzz" by Chris Farlow(e) and The Thunderbirds!!! The B side is called "You’re The One". Both sides - written by Farlowe and Albert Lee - are chocked full of great vocals, superb guitar runs and the all-essential organ!!! Production was provided by Rik Gunnell who, of course, owned the famous Flamingo Club in Wardour Street and was closely associated with Georgie Fame!!!
This is the ORIGINAL 1965 UK DEMO Pressing on the Columbia label DB 7614 that was quickly WITHDRAWN from sale by EMI due the thinly-veiled drug and anti-Police references associated with the title and contained within the lyrics!!! Any fan of Chris Farlow(e) and The Thunderbirds, the Freakbeat R&B Mod sound or 60s music in general will want to have this super rarity in their collection!!!!
This is one of the real HOLY GRAIL items for collectors of Chris Farlowe and Freakbeat R&B Mod rarities. Featuring on so many Wants Lists, this is quite simply an incredible record with an outstanding heritage!!!!
Now read the background and understand, if you didn’t already know, just why this item is so desirable!!!...
A brief history: Chris Farlowe (or John Deighton to give him his real name) was born on 13 October 1940 and, prior to forming The Thunderbirds in 1963, played in a number of skiffle acts including The John Henry Skiffle Group. Chris Farlowe and The Thunderbirds was reputedly a first rate R&B band, one of the best on the circuit in the mid-60s, although they enjoyed little recognition at the time. The Thunderbirds featured Albert Lee on guitar who went on to play in several other bands including Heads Hands and Feet, Joe Cocker and The Cock 'n' Bull Band and he also had his own studio-only Albert Lee Band in 1975. The Thunderbirds’ organist, Dave Greenslade, also went on to greater things with The Ram Jam Band and Colosseum.
After the one-off Decca 45 “Air Travel” passed largely without notice, The Thunderbirds were picked up by EMI's Columbia label and released some first rate R&B singles, which were ideally suited to Farlowe's powerful rasping vocal style. By far the rarest and most sought-after of these is “Buzz With The Fuzz”, which was withdrawn almost immediately after its release because EMI objected to some of the mod slang (i.e. the obvious drug and anti-Police references!!!) contained within the title and lyrics. Following this, the band released the fantastic epic “Stormy Monday Blues” - it took up both sides of one 45! - under the alias of Little Joe Cook on the UK Sue label. At the time everyone thought the 45 was the work of an obscure black US blues singer!!!
It wasn't until Chris Farlowe and The Thunderbirds signed to the new Immediate label that they began to enjoy the success they really deserved.
All my records are placed in a heavy weight vinyl outer before despatch in heavy weight mailer with card stiffeners
All my records are sent out in high quality thick card mailers just 1-2days after I receive payment. I grade records as carefully as I can using the Record Collector UK Grading System.
I use the UK 'RECORD COLLECTOR' gradings which are as follows:
- MINT - The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as SEALED or UNPLAYED should be MINT.
- EXCELLENT - The record shows some signs of having been played but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.
- VERY GOOD - The record has obviously been played many times but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without major defects is acceptable.
- GOOD - The record has been played so much that the sound has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents may suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration etc.
- FAIR - The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise, etc. The covera and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.
