Description
HARRY BREUER was a mallet man, a xylophonist and vibraphonist, who had moderate success in the 1930s with his own compositions.
"CHOKIN' THE BELL," though identified on the label as a "xylophone solo," actually is played on vibes, and very effectively, by Harry. Although Lionel Hampton gets the credit as the first jazz vibraphonist, I think Harry's record actually is the first full-out exposition of a jazz piece on that instrument. "BUFFOON" on the flip, is a famous piece by Zez Confrey, played most effectively - on xylophone - by Mr. Breuer.
This original 1933 English Brunswick 01896 is in reasonably clean EE- condition.
PHOTO: Original sheet music for "Chokin' the Bell," which is listed as a xylophone OR vibraphone solo.

These records come from my private collection, which I have been accumulating since 1967, and now am downsizing! My highest priority in these eBay auctions is to give you the best possible idea of a record’s true condition and aesthetic value. I always post at least four clear images, showing the record fore and aft, a close-up of the label, and the whole disc, warts and all. If my purple prose won’t cut it, the pictures will! Shipping is done with expert care. Your record will brave Media Mail in a stout corregated box, between four sheets of cardboard and a couple of “packers.” I hope you are amused by these descriptions, and by the quality of service being offered.
