Born Chen Meiqin (???) in a big family in Canton province in 1928, May was initially engaged to a married man at a very young age, and was abandoned after bearing two children with him. Single mother that living in rather deprived condition, May finally secured a job as an actress with Zhang Shankun’s Xin Hua Studio circa 1954, stage named as Zhu Ying (??), having appear as rather ignorable supporting roles in a handful of films.
