LABEL & RELEASE YEAR: DADE #1823 (1961)

RECORD CONDITION: GLOSSY, NO SKIPS, I HEARD 4 CLICKS ON SIDE A, 2 LIGHT CLICKS SIDE B

LABELS CONDITION: SIDE A IS ALMOST VG+++ (APARENTLY A RADIO STATION LIGHT DIAGONAL LIGHT LINE) AND SIDE B HAD A DJ STICKER THAT I TRIED TO REMOVE...BLAME MYSELF!...SORRY!

REMARKS:...THE DADE/MARLIN LABELS WERE FROM MIAMI, FLORIDA, THIS GREAT SOUL GIRL GROUP APPRENTLY WERE FROM TAMPA, FLORIDA (my note: I'm from Tampa where this rare record was found) AND RECORDED ANOTHER RARITY (MARLIN LABEL IN 1962) "ONE MORE TIME". IN FACT THE DEAD WAX TEXT SHOWS "MARLIN 1009"...DID THAT ISSUE EXISTS?? NOT FOUND IN THE WEB.

THE LABELS OWNER MR. HENRY STONE:

In 1948, Stone settled in Miami, Florida, setting up his own distribution company, Seminole, and shortly afterwards the Crystal recording studio. In 1951 he recorded Ray Charles’ "St. Pete Florida Blues", among others. In 1952 he started two record labels, Rockin' (for blues) with artists including Earl Hooker, and Glory (for gospel), and soon had success in both styles. In association with King Records, Stone released The Charms’ "Hearts of Stone" on King's De Luxe Records subsidiary, and it became an R&B chart #1 hit in 1954. He was also instrumental in signing James Brown to King, and in recording Brown’s first hit "Please, Please, Please".

In 1955, he established his own independent publishing companies and several record labels, including Chart and Dade, mainly recording local blues artists. In 1960, Stone cut "(Do The) Mashed Potatoes" by "Nat Kendrick and the Swans" – actually James Brown's backing band - for the Dade label. He also set up Tone Distribution (originally Tru-Tone), which became one of the most successful record distribution companies, working with Atlantic, Motown, Stax and many more independent labels. Stone's distribution expertise was instrumental in spreading the music produced by those labels around the world. At its height, Tone occupied a full city block and a large warehouse in Hialeah, Florida, and employed over 100 people.

While he focused on the distribution business during the 1960s, Stone also continued to record R&B artists. These included Betty Wright, whose "Clean Up Woman" was a major hit in 1971 on his and Steve Alaimo's Alston label. Alaimo had previously recorded for Stone and been a Tone employee. Stone also set up the Glades label, recording the million selling hit "Why Can’t We Live Together" by Timmy Thomas. Stone established many different labels on the basis, he said, that it was easier to get records played if the radio stations did not realize they came from the same source

STILL SEALED (SS)

Mint (M) Perfect in every way. Never been played, possibly even still sealed. We usually won't grade this unless we really mean it.

Near Mint (NM or M-) A nearly perfect record. The record should show no obvious signs of wear.

VG++ (Excellent) RECORD WILL BE JUST IN-BETWEEN VG+ & NM (CLOSER TO NM).....Almost No Wear, No Significant Noise, No Clicks!

Very Good Plus (VG+) This will show some signs that it was played and handled by a previous owner who took good care of it. The vinyl surfaces may show some signs of wear and may have slight scuffs or very light scratches that don't greatly affect one's listening experiences. Very light warps that do not affect the sound or tracking may be present. The label may have some light ring wear or discoloration.

Very Good (VG) Many of the defects found in a VG+ record will be more pronounced for this grade. Surface noise will be evident upon playing, especially in quiet passages or during a song's intro and fade, they will not overpower the music otherwise. Groove wear will start to be noticeable, as with light scratches (deep enough to feel with a fingernail) that may affect the sound. The label may be marred by writing, or have tape or stickers (or their residue) attached. TO BE SOLD AS IS!

Good (G), Good Plus (G+) Good does not mean Bad! A record in Good or Good Plus condition can be put onto a turntable and should play through without skipping. It will have significant surface noise, scratches and visible groove wear. Labels will have heavy wear. (If its is a vinyl you have been seeking for years, and the price is right, get it...but look to upgrade down the road) TO BE SOLD AS IS!

PICTURE SLEEVE (IF ANY) GRADING SCALE:

STILL SEALED (SS) Even though a record is sealed the jacket may still have wear. This can result in a grade such as (SS VG+) (This means it is sealed but maybe it has some light ring wear from sitting for years or a very small cut in it somewhere.)

Mint (M) Perfect in every way.

Near Mint (NM or M-) A nearly perfect jacket. It should show no obvious signs of wear. The cover should have no creases, folds, seam splits or other noticeable similar defects. Definitely no cut-out holes.

VG++ (Excellent) Almost No Wear, No Splits, No Significant Edge Wear

Very Good Plus (VG+) Jacket will have some slight wear, lightly turned up corners, or a slight seam split. Possible a well-repaired seam split that is no longer highly noticeable. The jacket may have slight signs of ring wear, or may be marred by a cut-out hole, indentation or corner indicating it was taken out of print and sold at a discount. A VG++ will have no splits, minimal ring wear if any, etc.

Very Good (VG) The jacket can have any of the defects listed in VG+. It may have a little larger seam splits then the VG+ jacket could have. The jacket may also be marred by writing, or have tape, stickers, or their residue attached. However, it will not have all of these problems at the same time, only two or three of them. It may have larger seam splits that are carefully repaired and nearly un-noticeable. TO BE SOLD AS IS!

Good (G), Good Plus (G+) The jacket will have seam splits, especially at the bottom or on the spine. Tape, writing, ring wear or other defects will start to overwhelm the look of jacket. TO BE SOLD AS IS!
