Description
Up for bids is CHARLIE PARKER Vol. 1 Savoy MG 9000 -10" LP Vinyl released 1951. From the research I have done, this is an alternate cover which looks to be rare. This was released with 2 different covers but I believe this was the first. This 10" Vinyl Record features not only Charlie Parker but also Miles Davis on trumpet, Dizzy Gillespie on piano and Trumpet, John Lewis on Piano, Tommy Potter on bass and Max Roach on drums. Covered on this album are Now's the Time, Donna Lee, Chasing The Bird, Red Cross, Ko Ko, Warming Up A Riff, Half Nelson, and Sipping At Bells.
The cover says " All of the above named sides are the results of a short period in the life of Charlie Parker, 1944-1948, and they are considered some of the greatest recordings that he has ever made and, as you listen to them, you too may feel the same. If you are a Jazz musician, this collections is a must and if you are a collector, these sides are sure to become your most prized possessions for a period of one of the greatest transitions in Jazz and by its greatest interpreter, Charlie Parker".
This rare cover shows some wear. It has a 4-1/2" slit in the top seam. Some of the cellophane coating on the front of the cover is starting to peel off but it still looks good. There is a small number (3001) written in ink at the bottom right side corner of the back cover. The record is untested but it has been stored for years in a plastic sleeve in the original cover and looks to be in great condition. It has a small sticker on the label for cataloging from the previous owner.
Please look at the pictures carefully as they are part of the description. If you have any questions, please email. Thanks for looking!
