CHARLIE GORE & LOUIS INNIS Female Hound Dog 78RPM ELVIS Shipping Info | Sales Theme Description CHARLIE GORE And LOUIS INNIS "[YOU AIN'T NOTHIN' BUT A FEMALE] HOUND DOG/MEXICAN JOE" King Records 1212. Record: EXCELLENT PLUS, Labels: NEAR MINT! [surface looks great, a rich and dark black, with some light surface marks. The center hole is normal. The paper hole didn't line-up properly when the disc was pressed.] This is a 1953 78 RPM record. All 78's come with a paper sleeve. Grading is strict. Records are shipped in sturdy cardboard packing for safe delivery.
Largely forgotten by the American country audience, this songwriter and recording artist blended the traditional sounds with rock & roll and a seasoning of country blues, sometimes getting labeled as a rockabilly artist in the process. He worked largely out of Midwestern Appalachia, appearing on several different radio and television series like the Cincinnati Hayride. He began recording during the '50s, cutting blues- and rock-flavored material for labels such as King and Fan. On some of these singles the backup was Gore's guitar and the plaintive steel guitar licks of the young genius Jerry Byrd. On one of the singles with which he teamed up with Louis Innis, the sides promise to offend just about everyone: the A-side is the infamous "You Ain't Nothin' but a Female Hound Dog," while the flip is the politically incorrect "Mexican Joe." This killer 1953 record was a response to BIG MAMA THORNTON's 1952 R&B hit "[You Ain't Nothin' But A] Hound Dog". A song ELVIS would cover in 1956.
