For auction is CHARLES MINGUS' "Mingus" on Candid 8021, DG, MONO, 1961. Promo Ed. With Eric Dolphy, Booker Ervin, others.
SOUND: VG+ or better
It has been machine-cleaned and I listened to both sides completely. Overall the playback is terrific, and thoroughly enjoyable. The only thing that keeps the grade from NM is the presence of about 15 seconds of soft, sequential tics at the end of side A. Absolutely does not overpower the playback, but must be mentioned. Other than that, light surface noise can be heard at a few spots, during soft passages. But even then, not a big deal... easy to ignore! Outstanding lineup and performance!
VINYL: VG+
There are a few scuffs or hairline marks either side. These appear superficial and don't affect the playback. There is a tiny mark at the end of side A, which I could not feel, but is likely the source of the tics described above. The record is on a white Candid label with deep grooves. I'm fairly confident this is a "promo" edition label, as all the other examples I've seen have the orange/yellow label. The labels have a few spindle marks and side B has a slight "doubling" of the title (my guess is it was struck twice in the printing process)... it's very faint, see pics...
JACKET: NM-
The jacket is beautiful. All edges and spine are solid with minimal wear. The corners have a touch of wear, but still pretty good. The textured front cover is lovely, clean and unworn. The back too, is very clean and unmarked, with only the most routine aging or wear.
The photos are of the exact record up for bids. Look before you bid, ask if you want any additional info or pics.
Overall an excellent copy in condition/playback. No reserve, bidding starts at $10.
Every record I auction has been cleaned on a Nitty Gritty vacuum/cleaner. I played every record to determine if there are static, tics, pops, hisses, what have you. I endeavor to thoroughly report any extraneous audio "noise" or problems of any significance. Other than that, I will report on the general condition of each record, both vinyl and jacket, according to Goldmine standards, to the best of my ability.
Every record is put into a new, clean sleeve insert. In the case of an interesting original sleeve insert, I'll include that in the sale.
If you're into this stuff, you might want to save me to your seller's list and check back periodically. I'll be putting a lot of vintage jazz records up for auction.
