Description

Cauley Family (Melotone 13113) New River Train / Lumberton Wreck
A couple of railroad-themed songs played by Roland Cauley on fiddle and vocals, one of his children (unnamed in the logs) on banjo and vocals, and Lake Howard on guitar and vocals. The first song, New River Train, was already a classic by the time of this recording. Lumberton Wreck, probably written by Roland Cauley, relates the details of an actual fatal collision between a tobacco truck and the Seaboard Air Line passenger train No. 14 on August 2, 1933 which took the lives of at least eight people in the truck. Recorded on August 8, 1934 in NYC.
