Description
Catapilla---"Changes"---Rarest Psych---1st Press UK Copy (1Y//1 & 2Y//1) From 1972---Wonderful Prog/Psych/Jazz
This is an original UK 1st press copy in stereo from 1972 and is on the black and white swirl Vertigo label, cat. no. 6360 074 with matrices 1Y//1 & 2Y//1.
Vinyl: This record has been played a great deal and shows it in the light scratches on both sides-HOWEVER, there are no skips or jumps on this album and the sheen is pretty good. Plays as follows:
Side 1: Track 1: Fairly clean start then into a succession of 38 sharp clicks during the lead in quiet parts. The rest then sounds very very clean and right up until the quiet centre section there is only 1 click to be heard, The quiet centre sectionis very clicky but still produces very clear audio. The second part of track 1 starts with some clicking folowing on the same as the end of the last section, until about 25 seconds after the restart when it starts to improve. Half way through the clicks start again from both speakers. Between tracks 1 & 2 there is only a little light surface noise.
Track 2: This plays really well with practically no noise and as the music volume increases there is not even a hint of surface.
Side 2: Track 1: Starts great and then as track comes in it plays with a sporadic click through but music is still very clear behind. Some cracks at end of centre quiet part and the next section is ultra clear with no noise.
Track 2: Great all the way through up until the end where a couple of light clicks can be heard.
Labels: Labels are completely unmarked with very little spindle rash and look great.
Sleeve: This sleeve is a bit scruffy but is solid and in one piece. No splits, no markings, or discolouration but there are signs of wear on the edges and corners. As you can see from the photos, thetop section of the insect has been torn off at some time exposing the "Catapilla Changes" text on the inside of the gatefold. No swirl inner, I'm afraid, but I will include one if I have another spare.
All in all this album is probably rated VG. It plays without skipping or jumping and has particularly clear audio. But it does have it's faults. It's rarity value will help to push the price up and it is worth a bid just to own one. I have felt very privileged to have been able to have a copy and to listen to the wonderful music.
