CAT STEVENS Tea For The Tillerman LP ORIGINAL UK PINK ISLAND 1970 A-3/B-3

Hi Ebay Enthusiasts,

This record is part of an amazing selection of vinyl which I have inherited. The music spans from 50's - 90's including rockabilly, country, classical, rock'n'roll, blues, rock, jazz, funk, soul/northern soul, reggae, ska and afrobeat, hip hop and r&b... which I will be listing over the next few months. There are lots of rarities, although there are some reproductions of hard to find records. I am not a connoisseur neither do I claim to be an expert. I am just a music lover who appreciates good music. I will be grading by visual inspection and listening to the record. If you have any questions concerning a particular record feel free to contact me. I will try, as best I can, to give an accurate and honest description. If you feel my description has been inaccurate, please contact me first before leaving negative feedback..so we can resolve the issue speedily.

I endeavour to entertain customer satisfaction, should a problem arise with your item please contact me immediately by e-mail. A full refund is available on return of the item within 7 days of receipt.

Right enough of that......up for sale is

Artist: Cat Stevens

Title: Tea For The Tillerman

Format: 12" (Vinyl 33) LP

Country: UK

Label: Island Records - ILPS 9135

Year: 1970

Description: Original 1st press Pink "i" Label

Matrix Nos: ILPS 9135 A-3U / ILPS 9135 B-3U. This is the earliest Pink Rim pressing.

Stamper Codes: 1 L / 1 H

Condition (Disc/Sleeve): Visually VG    Has been played a fair number of times and has visible surface marks which cause 13 ticks at beginning side 2 on track 1. Plays VG+ with no jumps/skips or anything serious beyond some background sound in quieter parts and fault mentioned.  Housed in the first press laminated gatefold sleeve with a textured inside. The spine is uncreased and the printing is legible.a gatefold format with front and back lamination, the inside is matt finished and quite heavily textured. Printed and made in England by the E. J. Day Group. This imprint is tiny and only seen on the extreme right edge near the top corner inside the gatefold. You will need a magnifier to see this detail, I have checked it exactly that way and I can confirm this is the first EJD cover. This first-issue cover also has the very wide spine (as seen on my close-up pictures).

Comments: Collectors Item!!  This is a rare record, make no mistake about it. Few copies of this record were issed on the original full pink i format, most early editions seen on the pink rim or later labels. Issued at the very end of the full pink label run, this is one of the most elusive Island albums ever made as an genuine first pressing. It indeed proved the very last UK full pink label album issued, the catalogue number falls between two new pink rim titles – namely: Nick Drake’s ‘Bryter Layter’ (ILPS 9134) and The Amazing Blondel ‘Evensong’ (ILPS 9136). It even begs the question, was it meant to be issued on the Pink label at all? Repressed almost immediately on the new pink format and seldom seen or offered. Way under-valued in those so-called Price Guides, Cat Steven’s career only really took-off when the record-buying public discovered the brilliance of this album – but by then – the original pink label copies had all but gone. With the sheer rarity of the pink Island first pressing, many collectors are more than happy to settle for a Pink Rim pressing. But for the serious Island and Cat Stevens collector, nothing else will do than a first pressed pink i original. For me the ultimate Cat Stevens album, a record of incredible beauty and including several outstanding and memorable songs. A man now inspired and near his musical peak, no music lover could fail to be moved by this beautiful music. The man in supreme voice and including the most perfect production with a full backing. Packaged too in gorgeous cover, this record proves beyond any doubt what an exceptional singer-songwriter this man is and every record collection should include this truly memorable record.

No reserve! Doesn't come round that often....don't sleep on this one!!

GRADINGS ARE AS FOLLOWS:

A SPECIAL NOTE REGARDING RECORDS

Unless buying a vinyl record that  is SEALED, or in NEAR-MINT condition, there will always be some type of surface sounds, or background noise, known as pops and crackling.

If the LP has been played a couple of times, it can never be perfect. This is especially noticeable in classical and jazz records, which have quiet passages.

You are buying vinyl LPs because they sound better than CDs, however the pops and crackling come with an LP.

VINYL GRADE

M = Never been played or used.

NM = This record appears virtuously flawless. If there is a flaw, it should be very hard to see. Very minor scuffs and very little else can appear on the vinyl. It should play clean with a crisp fidelity throughout, without any noise over the flaw.

EX = Minor scuffs, marks or light scratches which are only slightly visible. There may be more than a few, but, it should play clean with a crisp fidelity throughout, with some minor background noise permissible.

VG =Record shows wear and has surface scuffs or light hairline marks. The vinyl still has a good luster, but the flaws will be noticeable to the naked eye and may cause some surface noise.

G = Loss of lustre to vinyl. several scratches and heavy marks (deep enough to feel with fingernail) that will affect the sound and groove wear will be noticeable. Will play without  sticking or jumping but will have surface noise throughout.

F = Looks and plays bad, possibly skips. Plenty of hiss, clicks, or pops.

P = Just a collection filler, to look at.

SLEEVE GRADE

Mint (M) = No stickers ,address labels or writing on the covers or labels. No tears or seam splits or wear to the cover. Flawless.

Near Mint (NM) = The cover appears virtuously flawless, with only very minor signs of wear and/or age.

Excellent (EX) = Artwork is clean and still close to perfect as can be. Some impression to the cover (minor ring wear) but not the ink is permissable. Light creasing is permitted,no wrinkles or bends or anything obtrusive to the eye.

VG =Artwork is clean with slightly more aging. The back of the cover usually gives away the age of the cover. Flat white paper will be somewhat yellow yet no stains or mildew from water damage. Some minor wear to the seams or spine, but no tears or holes popping through.

G =Several (but not all of the following flaws may apply): Seam splits, large marker writing, major seam splits, significant ring wear, damaged corners, tears cuts, gouges ,masking or duct tape seam repairs or other flaws and damage. Probably only used as a collection filler until a better copy can be found.

Please note there may be a difference between grading with a (+/-) , all this means is that there is a very slight upgrade/downgrade.
