Description
Here is a very rare group doo wop gem 45 featuring THE CASTELLES on the GRAND label from 1953.
Titles are "My Wedding Day" and "Heavenly Father."
Label is yellow with black text. There is no address shown. Catalog number is Grand 122.
Matrix numbers are machine stamped in the runout area "4200" and "4201." There is also an "E" inside a diamond that is machine stamped in the runout area on both sides.
Vinyl is heavily worn and scuffed with numerous hairline scratches due to multiple playings and being stored without a protective sleeve over the years. It would grade "G" according to the Goldmine standards. No cracks or warps. No skips on my Thorens TD-160.
The playback has considerable noise, especially in the early going, as you can hear on the accompanying sound clips. However, I found the record to be quite listenable after you get past the first 15-20 seconds which are the most noisy. Labels are heavily worn, and have writing. This record is not for everyone, but represents a decent filler copy of a record you are very likely to not see again any time soon, if ever.
- It lists in the Kreiter Price Guide as "NEGOTIABLE."
- According to the Tefteller-Umphred Guide to R&B Records, a Near Mint copy should sell in the $3,000-$6,000 range.
