My Sunday bonus item this week is a GREAT ORIGINAL 1950s-ERA GEMS RECORDS British Guyana calypso 78 RPM record titled 'Rock-N-Roll Calypso'/'Yankee's Back Again' from The Carribean All Stars Band with vocalist Lord Melody on the A-side and vocalist King Sparrow on the B-side. It is Gems Records catalog number SM-001.   This 78 is authentic Guyanese calypso, recorded in Gerogetown, British Guyana, South America, and is a GEMS Production.  'Rock-N-Roll Calypso' is simply a GREAT SONG - It is native Guyanaese calypso infused with a large dose of Bill Haley & The Comets - In this song The Carribean All Stars have lifted many of the horn passages from the Bill Haley classic 'Rock Around The Clock', and the lyrics also have the feel of a rock-n-roll record.  Visual condition of play surface is about VG with most original gloss, a moderate amount of surface marks and scuffs, none of which can be felt and none of which will affect play, and a few scratches, mostly on the B-side, which can be felt and which will cause some light ticks, no skips.  Record has no cracks, surface or sub-surface, no chips, and no warps. One label has a little very light writing in pencil as can be seen in the accompanying image, labels have no other flaws. Record will be shipped double packed - The record will first be placed in a standard professional cardboard LP mailer with extra cardboard flats on both sides of the record inside the mailer, and the mailer will then be placed into a larger box with cushioning material on both sides of the mailer inside the outer box. I will cover the cost of postal insurance on this shipment, I would not ship a fragile 78 RPM record uninsured.  This rare and musically great 78 would make a choice addition to any vintage calypso or Carribean music record collection!
