Carl Perkins, Blue Suede Shoes, Sun EP-115. Year of release is 1958. Tracks include Blue Suede Shoes; Movie Magg; Sure To Fall; and Gone, Gone, Gone. This is an absolutely gorgeous copy of this very rare Sun EP. The jacket is in beautiful VG++ condition applying strict Goldmine standards. The record visually and play grades VG+ to VG++, again with strict Goldmine standards. The jacket has sharp edges and corners with no frays, splits, or pre splits. The front cover has only a tinge of inner circle ring wear that can only be seen if the cover is tilted at just the right angle. The amount of wear is almost microscopic and does not interfere with the beauty of the glossy cover. There is a clean indention in the upper right corner that bears the number "10." This is merely an indention. There are no signs of ink remaining at all. I had this EP for some time before I even noticed the indention. It is difficult to see because of the dark backdrop. The back cover is amazingly clean. The only visible flaw is, as with the front cover, a tinge of inner circle ring wear. The wear is light enough so as to not have produced any loss of print on the cover's biography. It somewhat borders on constituting pre ring wear as opposed to most levels of ring wear that are unsightly. The record has some very light superficial scratches that are mainly visible under very close inspection and with a strong light. None of these light scratches can be felt or heard. The record is a very nice VG+ or better record that has been well cared for. The record gets a play grade of VG+ to VG++ only because of some consistent low grade noise that can be heard that seems like it could be that which is inherent in the overall quality of most Sun 45 recordings. The record is made of vinyl and not styrene. The labels are in strong VG++ condition except for a rubber stamping mark on the A side (See image below). This rubber stamping identifies the original owner whom I acquired the record from along with his U.S. Army serial number. This marking is certainly preferred over the hand writing or labels that owners often used. There is an interesting story about why this owner was compelled to identify many of his records, an action that he would have not ordinarily taken in order for the records to preserve their full value. It seems that one soldier in his infantry division in Viet Nam had all of his records stolen! The poor soldier was so distraught and depressed over the incident that he committed suicide! The owner's commanding officer then forced every one of his soldiers to identify each and every one of his records! This story is sad but true, although it certainly makes for an interesting conversation piece. It provides a comforting response as to why such an action had to be taken in the first place!
