Hard to find Cardiacs album on vinyl (arguably their best?).
Not the recent re-issue, this is the 1989 original.
Condition of sleeve - VG, a fair amount of wear to corners, spine and edges,
creeping out to form tiny creases though faces pretty clean and overall looks
quite presentable.
Condition of 1 page lyric sheet - VG, tidy but there's a small tear to the bottom
(see photos).
Condition of record - VG overall (VG+ most of the time), vinyl has various marks, scuffs,
light scratches. In detail...
Side 1 - Some surface crackle to start of side which eases off as track progresses, VG+
after this.
Side 2 - A little surface noise to start, then plays as VG+ though there are 2 skips; one
at the beginning of "The Safety Bowl" (plus some clicks), one during the ambient noise
section at the very beginning of "The Everso Closely Guarded Line" (again with a few clicks).
So not a mint copy by any means but am listing at a much lower price than record's usual worth.

"Cardiacs are an odd band to try to categorize so I won't really try. Within the same song you can have progressive, ska and punk, not to mention 20 changes of key and direction and mood. The choruses are usually rather sing-song, and for some reason put me in mind of Dr. Seuss, as channeled by a punk Van Der Graf Generator.....but there are little sparklings of Peter Gabriel-era Genesis, perhaps Gentle Giant, early XTC (before Barry Andrews split), maybe a bit of Madness, and who knows what else. Sometimes the pace is at an incredible speed and yet the band can turn and go off in other directions seamlessly without missing a beat. In other words, this band is fascinating to me & while they are influenced by many, they sound like no one else. I can't always make out the lyrics but the chant "drowning girls and drowning boys, bob up and down like stupid toys" from "Fast Robert" get stuck in my head & I can't get them out. It's unfortunate the band were not more well known, and I've only recently discovered them myself, after they've been around for over 30 years. Well worth checking out."
