Caravan : In The Land Of Grey And Pink 1D/1D 1st Press Brown Deram Label

This first pressing on the brown Deram label plays with stunning clarity for 99.9% of the record!  There are a couple of very light dull ticks at the start of S2 but aside from that this classic album plays to highest standard possible.  It has been played judging by the spindle wear but in a sense that shows just how carefully it has been looked after.  The vinyl itself is very clean and the audio reflects that.  The clarity, depth and warmth is incredible and this may well be the finest example of this album that I have ever listened to.

The laminated cover is in great condition with only minor wear in the top left corner.  It has kept its original shape and structure and the inside is for once so clean with zero marking.  The inner inner sleeve is also in excellent order but is dated 6.73 so may not be original to this album.

Visual description

The vinyl is in excellent condition with a strong glossy sheen and there are no marks or scratches.  Under a bright light I can see some faint hairlines but they are purely superficial as they have zero impact on the superb audio.  The brown Deram labels only have some spindle wear but not an excessive amount.

Play grading

The intro on 'Golf Girl' plays with perfect clarity and the opening vocal section is of the same high end standard.  No ticks, clicks, pops or static just pure clean audio - and the mid instrumental is on the same level.  The next vocal and closing instrumental / fade out again have no background and Mint is very much deserved.  If a record has been well looked after and 'cleaned' why can't it play 'as new' despite the age?  I play every track in full so as to provide that 'complete' grade and this opening track could not play any better.  The clarity, depth and warmth of the audio is outstanding.  

With complete silence in the deadwax 'Winter Wine' then plays with stunning precision and all I 'picked up' were a couple of extremely quiet statics / ticks - not interference!  Once again the clarity of sound through every vocal and instrumental section is so impressive and Mint- is very much deserved.

'Love To Love You...' again provides more evidence of a near perfect vinyl!  A superb track, great lyrically, and no intrusion from start to finish.  The sonic quality is equal to how it would have sounded back in '71, probably better on my set up!  Mint

The intro on 'In The Land Of Grey And Pink' is flawless - it's quiet and yet there is not one solitary dust tick let alone anything worse.  The opening vocal section plays to perfection and the mid instrumental is just as strong and clear.  Again such a great melody and the closing vocal / instrumental has no intrusion either.  Mint

'Nigel Blows A Tune' the first part of 'Nine Feet Underground' plays so clearly with just two quiet dull ticks after 30 seconds or so.  Not a major issue!  The remainder of this section plays with impeccable quality and Near Mint- is about right.

'Love's A Friend' plays with exceptional audio through every vocal and instrumental passage.  The instrumental 'Make It 76' has no background either.  Mint

The very quiet 'Dance Of The Seven Paper Hankies' plays with STUNNING clarity and there is nothing getting in the way of the audio.  Two barely audible dust ticks only and it grades as Mint

They came up with great titles didn't they!  'Hold Grandad By The Nose' plays with that by now familiar depth and warmth and of course... no intrusion.  'Honest I Did' is equal to that and both qualify as Mint

The quiet segue into 'Disassociation' is faultless and it then plays with a clarity and definition that is second to none.  The second 'vocal' on this track and it easily grades as Mint it is a stunning version.

The final section '100% Proof' plays with genuine power and depth and... no interference.  If there is any inner groove distortion you scarcely notice it, it is so minimal.  A superb Mint- conclusion to this classic 22 minute opus.

The Gatefold & Inner Sleeve

The laminated cover is in excellent condition with only minimal wear.  The only 'obvious' wear is a little creasing in the top left corner but it's barely noticeable on the back.  The edges are unmarked and the only issue the spine has is some compression and minor wear by the top corner, it remains 100% legible with no marking.  The other corners are very clean with no real wear at all and the opening edges have very little handling wear.  The front cover has retained its colouring perfectly with only that small amount of creasing top left and the back cover is just as impressive with just one tiny laminate crease top right.  The inside of the gatefold is in superb condition without any marking which is such a rarity!  It is so often marked mainly because it isn't laminated but not here, it is stunning!  This is a fine example of this cover.

The poly-lined blue stereo inner is in great shape with no side splits or tears and barely any marking or creasing.  It is dated 6-73 so it probably isn't the original.

Play tested on my Rega P2 with AT-VM95EN Cart / Denon PMA-520AE Amp / B&W 684 Speakers

I will only send items items worldwide via tracked shipping.  This provides 'peace of mind' in case of loss or damage.  The shipping costs are shown below and combined shipping is always offered.  Any over-payment will always be refunded.

The Royal Mail only insure up to a value of £250 so if an item sells for more it may be wise to use a courier service (e.g. Parcelforce or DPD).  An extra insurance premium will be required but I will not know the exact amount until the final sale price is known.  Because of this I will sometimes have to estimate the cost and this will be shown in the listing.  Please wait for the invoice before making payment and if you have any questions please feel free to ask.  Many thanks.

All vinyls are packaged in strong over-sized custom made mailers with plenty of extra cardboard protection.  They are placed inside separate poly-lined inners outside the cover so as to avoid seam splits in transit and then placed inside a PVC sleeve to provide even more protection.  I pride myself on my high quality packaging as my feed confirms and if any customer has any specific requirements I am more than happy to help.

The mailers I use cost £1.00 each and I will use anything between 3-5 cardboard stiffeners which cost approx £0.18 each.  There is also the cost of the poly-lined inner and PVC sleeve to consider, it all adds up!  Not forgetting that eBay take 10% of the shipping fee also!!
