Caravan : In The Land Of Grey And Pink 1D / 1D 1st Press 1972 Brown Deram Label
This first pressing plays with stunning quality on both sides. There are no clicks or pops, in essence there is no obvious interference at all. The clarity and depth of the audio is so impressive and the only background is some very quiet minor ticks on one S2 intro and a little static on some of the vocal section on T7 on S2 also, nothing really intrusive. Overall though this is easily one of the finest first pressings I have ever listened to. As described below the vinyl does have some light hairlines but they have zero impact on the incredible audio.
The laminated gatefold is in superb condition also with hardly any wear, it has to one of the strongest I have seen. The inside for example is exceptionally clean and the laminated front and back are in lovely condition. The original inner sleeve has some wear but nothing major.

Visual description
The vinyl is in excellent condition and still holds a strong glossy look. There are some light hairlines but this shows just how robust vinyl was from this era. They are superficial in other words as hairlines often are and have literally no affect on the superb audio. There are no marks or scratches to be seen. There is no groove or surface wear either and the brown Dream labels are very clean with only some spindle wear mainly around the centre ring.
Play Grading
The intro on 'Golf Girl' plays with perfect clarity and the opening vocal is just as impressive with not so much as a dust tick. The warmth and depth of the audio has not affected by the intervening years and the mid instrumental has no intrusion. The next vocal again plays with impeccable quality and the closing instrumental could hardly play any better, I noticed just one very quiet static and then the long fade out has no background at all. It's still deserving of a Mint grade in my opinion.
The acoustic intro and opening vocal section on 'Winter Wine' is of course so quiet and yet it plays beautifully with only a couple of very quiet statics towards the end. As Coughlan comes in and the pace picks up the audio is stunning and there is nothing to detract from the playback. Yes some light hairlines but clearly this vinyl has been very well cared for. The next quiet vocal section plays with exceptional clarity and it continues in the same precise way. The long instrumental section can only be described 'as new'. This is the case for the remainder also - the final vocal perfect and overall Mint- is very much deserved. The minus is only there because of those two totally non-intrusive statics.
'Love To Love You...' plays with stunning quality through every section. It's a classic track so typical of Caravan and it could not play with any greater precision. The clarity, depth and warmth of the audio is phenomenal and Mint is very much deserved.
The title track 'In The Land Of Grey And Pink' again impresses on every level. The acoustic opening is so quiet and yet the clarity of sound is flawless. The first vocal section is just as impressive and the classic mid instrumental section plays with phenomenal quality also. The end vocal has no intrusion and the acoustic finale is equally as clean. I have no hesitation in grading this number as Mint such is the quality. Superb!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
'Nine Feet Underground' is of course made up of various sections and the first one 'Nigel Blows A Tune' plays with stunning precision throughout. It's the longest section actually and there is no background whatsoever. Mint
The segue into 'Love's A Friend' is perfect and the intro and vocal section have no interference either. The rest is equally as strong and clear and again Mint is deserved. 'Make It '76' is just as impressive also.
The quiet 'Dance Of The Seven Paper Paper Hankies' has a small number of minor static ticks at the beginning but they are very quiet and really not intrusive. From then on the audio is perfect. Near Mint is fair.
'Hold Grandad By The Nose' plays without fault from start to finish. Jeez they were good at song titles! 'Honest I Did!' again shows just how 'clean' this vinyl is and plays with imperious quality throughout. Both are as Mint
'Disassociation' plays very clearly although there is just a hint of light static on the vocal every now and then. It's a minor issue and there are certainly no ticks, clicks or pops. Let's say Ex+
The final section '100% Proof' plays with tremendous power and depth from the word go. Every instrumental section plays with great clarity and there is no obvious static and barely any inner groove distortion. Indeed the power and definition throughout is very impressive. Strong and deep. The concluding section is perfect. If not quite Mint- then Near Mint is definitely a fair assessment of the audio.
The Gatefold & Inner Sleeve
The laminated cover is in great condition with only minimal wear i.e. very very minimal! The edges are pristine and the spine remains very clean although it is a little compressed and 'angled' as is common. The spine corners have only a little wear and the right hand corners even less. The front opening edge is immaculate and the opening edge on the back cover has a little handling wear but by no means an extensive amount. The front cover is stunning with only a couple of tiny corner 'creases' next to the spine and a laminate crease near the bottom right corner. The back cover is just as impressive with a couple of barely visible laminate creases next to the left edge which you can only see when you hold the cover at a certain angle and two very small creases next to the spine. The inside of the gatefold is in lovely condition, a genuine rarity. It has no real marking - just a couple of minor specks and a hint of light fading neat the spine. A fine example overall.
The original poly-lined Decca inner sleeve has no side splits but does have some creasing and some inner glue residue marking on the edges plus some light wear on the top edge.

I will only send items items worldwide via tracked shipping. This provides 'peace of mind' in case of loss or damage. The shipping costs are shown below and combined shipping is always offered. Any over-payment will always be refunded.
The Royal Mail only insure up to a value of £250 so if an item sells for more it may be wise to use a courier service (e.g. Parcelforce or DPD). An extra insurance premium will be required but I will not know the exact amount until the final sale price is known. Because of this I will sometimes have to estimate the cost and this will be shown in the listing. Please wait for the invoice before making payment and if you have any questions please feel free to ask. Many thanks.
All vinyls are packaged in strong over-sized custom made mailers with plenty of extra cardboard protection. They are placed inside separate poly-lined inners outside the cover so as to avoid seam splits in transit and then placed inside a PVC sleeve to provide even more protection. I pride myself on my high quality packaging as my feed confirms and if any customer has any specific requirements I am more than happy to help.
The mailers I use cost £1.00 each and I will use anything between 3-5 cardboard stiffeners which cost approx £0.18 each. There is also the cost of the poly-lined inner and PVC sleeve to consider, it all adds up! Not forgetting that eBay take 10% of the shipping fee also!!
