On sale a rare original UK DERAM (SDL-R1) first pressing (April 1971) of CARAVAN's superb "IN THE LAND OF GREY AND PINK" LP in excellent condition pressed by Decca who produced some of the finest sounding records of the period.

This is fantastic copy of what is generally considered caravan's finest piece of work pressed on quality heavyweight vinyl with the first (small) red/white DERAM labels with "Made in England" and "the Decca Record Co. ltd." printed in white on the red half of the label with first issue matrix: zal - 10424.p - 1d / zal - 10425.p - 1d and mothers/stampers: 1/cv and 1/cu. The record is housed in the original outer laminated gatefold sleeve “Printed in England by Robert Stace”
and comes complete with the Blue Stereo Decca company poly-lined inner sleeve

The vinyl is graded visually in excellent minus condition.

The pink gatefold laminated Robert Stace sleeve with is in excellent towards near mint condition with some creases, corner and edge wear. It has some minute pin holes in the bottom top left corner. The not laminated black and white inside sleeve is in excellent towards near mint condition.

The spine is fully readable in excellent to near mint condition with corner wear and some feathering in the edges

The red and white DERAM labels are in excellent condition.

The poly-lined inner sleeve has the outer fold over and is in excellent condition.

In the Land of Grey and Pink is considered by many to be a pinnacle release from Caravan. The album contains an undeniable and decidedly European sense of humour and charm. In addition, this would mark the end of the band's premier line-up. Co-founder David Sinclair would leave Caravan to form Matching Mole with Soft Machine drummer and vocalist Robert Wyatt in August of 1971.

As a group effort, In the Land of Grey and Pink displays all the ethereal brilliance Caravan created on their previous pair of 12" outings. Their blending of jazz and folk instrumentation and improvisational styles hints at Traffic and Family, as displayed on "Winter Wine," as well as the organ and sax driven instrumental introduction to "Nine Feet Underground."

These contrast the decidedly aggressive sounds concurrent with albums from King Crimson or Soft Machine. In fact, beginning with the album's title, there seems to be pastoral qualities and motifs throughout.

Another reason enthusiasts rank this album among their favourites is the group dynamic which has rarely sounded more singular or cohesive. David Sinclair's lyrics are of particular note, especially the middle-earth imagery used on "Winter Wine" or the enduring whimsy of "Golf Girl."
