For sale here is a fantastic copy of "CARAVAN" the debut album from CARAVAN released in 1969 in the US on the Verve Forecast label. This is a top rare vinyl. The vinyl looks unplayed and grades a solid near mint (NM). The cover is still a mighty solid example, but has some light wear and grades at very good plus (VG+). With this sale I am including a nice biographical history of the band. 3 x A4 size pages taken from a music magazine in the 1980's.
This is the first US pressing on the (MGM) Verve label.
Album cover is in pretty fine shape for being nearly 42 years old now. It is of course the highly prized "pillar" cover. Made of much thicker card than its UK counterpart, this has some disc "rub" at the top and bottom of the front face. It shows virtually no shelf wear to edges or spine, which is fully readable. The rear face has some light age spotting. The bottom right hand corner (front) has taken a knock, so there is localised creasing and some colour loss. The top left corner has a tiny drill hole in it, (I think this denoted a discontinued record in the US). This is a solid heavyweight album cover, and grades a conservative VG+.
This album has retained its original Verve inner sleeve. This advertises other artists of the era. This has stood up to the years quite well. Lightly age "yellowed", it has minimal creasing, but does have a slit from the disc to all three sides. These slits all measure approximately 3 inches. Still a cracking example and graded VG+. Please note: the disc is now housed in a new poly-lined inner.
Labels and vinyl playing surfaces are (visually) near mint. I cannot see any spindle traces on the labels at all. The vinyl has a deep gloss sheen and has no marks at all. The heavyweight first pressing vinyl is quite stunning. A cliche maybe, but this does look as good as new.
Sound quality is superb. This plays every bit as good as it looks. No unwanted skips or sticks. Plays with minimum fuss. Beautifully clear and detailed. Sound quality graded as at least excellent plus (EX+). This is a top top copy.
A hard to find album in any decent kind of condition. To find a vinyl of this age looking and sounding like this is pretty special. OK, it may not be the UK pressing, but you try and find a first pressing anywhere as good as this.
So. A genuine first US pressing with the very first Verve labels and the iconic "pillar" sleeve. Cover VG+, vinyls NM and sound quality EX+. It does not get much better than this, especially for a near 42 year old record.
