Description
This is an overall fine copy from a 1973 reissue of the second LP by Captain Beefheart and His Magic Band, originally released in 1968. Originally envisioned as a double LP entitled It Comes To You in a Plain Brown Wrapper (a concept reflected in the cover art here), the record has been shrouded in some controversy because of the heavy hand of producer Bob Krasnow. In 1971, Buddah released undoctored extended versions of four tracks from the recording sessions (two of which appear in abbreviated/doctored form here) as Mirror Man, and later archival releases have further rounded out the picture of the project. In terms of sound, the record is a transitional work in which the tight blues, soul, and rock structures of Safe as Milk are being pulled apart and reimagined, a process that would bear fruit on 1969's one-of-a-kind landmark double LP, Trout Mask Replica. The record was the first to be released on the Blue Thumb label. The gatefold jacket has a cut corner, a ½” split in the top seam, staining on the front cover and inside the gatefold, light ring and seam wear, and fading along the spine (VG+). The disc has a few fingerprints and some scuffing and loss of glossiness, and it plays with light surface noise -- EX(-).
I am in the process of selling off a large personal collection amassed over two decades. All discs have been stored in plastic lined inner sleeves separate from their jackets. The jackets have been stored in plastic sleeves. I have play graded (spot checked) discs except where otherwise noted.
