SYNOPSIS

   

Trout Mask Replica is Captain Beefheart's masterpiece, a fascinating, stunningly imaginative work that still sounds like little else in the rock & roll canon. Given total creative control by producer and friend Frank Zappa, Beefheart and his Magic Band rehearsed the material for this 28-song double album for over a year, wedding minimalistic R&B, blues, and garage rock to free jazz and avant-garde experimentalism. Atonal, sometimes singsong melodies; jagged, intricately constructed dual-guitar parts; stuttering, complicated rhythmic interaction -- all of these elements float out seemingly at random, often without completely interlocking, while Beefheart groans his surrealist poetry in a throaty Howlin' Wolf growl. The disjointedness is perhaps partly unintentional -- reportedly, Beefheart's refusal to wear headphones while recording his vocals caused him to sing in time with studio reverberations, not the actual backing tracks -- but by all accounts, the music and arrangements were carefully scripted by the Captain (aided by John "Drumbo" French), which makes the results even more remarkable. As one might expect from music so complex and, to many ears, inaccessible, the influence of Trout Mask Replica was felt more in spirit than in direct copycatting, as a catalyst rather than a literal musical starting point. However, its inspiring reimagining of what was possible in a rock context laid the groundwork for countless future experiments in rock surrealism, especially during the punk/new wave era.*

PAYMENTS   

    PROCESS: After auction completion, eBay will send the buyer a draft invoice based on the transactions' parameters. The seller will follow up that draft invoice with the actual transaction invoice, taking into account any reduced postage due to multiple purchases. The invoice will have multiple shipping options notated for the buyer to select which service they desire. Payment will cover the merchandise and the shipping option that is selected.     SHIPPING METHOD: Invoice will reflect at least two options of shipping methods. Once invoice is received the buyer will need to select the shipping method that they deire by paying that amount on top of that the actual product cost.     HOW?: PayPal is the required payment method as it results in a more streamlined and expedited process for both the buyer and the seller     WHEN?: Payment is requested by the FOURTH day following the completion of the auction "UNLESS", you are planning on bidding on additional items that are  coming up for bid or your schedule does not permit. Either way, please just notify me and make sure that I am aware.                    

SHIPPING & HANDLING FEES DISCLOSURE

    DOMESTIC:     Domestic Shipping & Handling (S&H) Fees total ($1.35). This fee is strictly a cost reimbursement as there is absolutely NO Profit, NO Supplies (tape, packing material, etc) NOR any labor built into this fee. For full, and fair, disclosure, this fee will cover the actual cost of  protective packaging (poly sleeves & custom mailers) and delivery confirmation. The intent of using these aid in the safe delivery of your merchandise to the buyer.     INTERNATIONAL:     International Shipping & Handling Fees total ($2.49) which consist of  the protective shipping items as noted in domestic plus S&H in additional to the cost associated for an extra trip to the Post Office to validate postage amounts prior to shipment and for the completion of required Customs Forms    

POSTAGE CALCULATION

   

 I use the eBay/USPS Postage Calculator Tool in order to determine postage amounts. This tool calculates postage amounts based upon the shipments' destination, shipping type, weight and (S&H) fees. 

 

    Postage types for Domestic shipments will be  is the decision of the buyer. Popular types are "Media Mail" (for lower cost) and "Priority Mail" (for quicker and more dependable delivery)       INTERNATIONAL:     Postage types for International shipments will be the decision of the buyer and will be either First Class International  (less expensive) or International Priority (quicker and more dependable).    

DELIVERY

    International shipments are much more difficult to track than domestic shipments and inevitably take longer to deliver. This being the case PLEASE be patient in waiting for the merchandise delivery as it could take a month (I've seen it many times).    

POSTAGE SAVINGS

    Buyers can always save on shipping costs by combining mulitiple auction wins which results in lower postage and eliminates the need for multiple LP mailers.

RETURNS

    Buyer will have a fourteen (14) day window of opportunity to return purchases The only qualifier is that the reason is Objective Vs.Subjective. As all vinyl collectors, and enthusiasts, are well aware, "grading" is extremely "SUBJECTIVE" and in the end is simply just one man's opinion. A difference of opinion on a vinyl's, or covers', "PROPER" or "CORRECT" grade is something that will exist. That being said, grading alone will NOT be grounds for a refund. I attempt to grade each record as very best that I can with an objective of creating buyers satisfaction. anyone as those that do so will find that action coming around to them. My feedback pretty much supports that philosophy in regards to the accurate grading. On the other hand, if there is an "OBJECTIVE" reason for returning the merchandise I will gladly accept their return. For example, a record that is listed as "Still Sealed" arrives opened, a record is advertised as a original release and turns out to be a reissue, a record is listed as a US release and turns out to be an import) then these are clearly objective reasons to return, which I will gladly accept. Merchandise that is damaged in transit should first be addressed between the buyer and the local postal delivery service.                     

GRADING PROCESS

    Grading Scale: I use "Goldmine" which is the standard that collectors use to buy and sell. See below for grading definitions and explanations.     Method (Visual Vs.  Sound): Visual, primarily due to time constraints and the volume (thousands) of records that we are dealing with. I use a bright 150W light bulb and I also grade conservatively and doing so for over thirty years. In order to ensure that buyers are happy.                     

RECORD GRADING SCALE DETAIL

1                   MINT (M): Sealed. This is the Holy Grail stage of the vinyl which can not, should not, be used on an opened item.                   NEAR MINT (NM):  A NM record “looks like it just came from a retail store and it was opened for the very first time.” In other words, it’s nearly perfect. They are shiny w/ NO visible defects. There can be NO writing, stickers, markings, etc either on the jacket, label or vinyl. NM records do not have to be "unlayed" as  a record used on an excellent turntable can remain NM after many plays if the disc is properly cared for properly. NM covers are free of creases, ring wear & splits.                   EXCELLENT (E): I don't use this often but do so when an Item appears extremely close to Near Mint (e.g. blemishes and minimal marks exist that are practically unnoticeable to the naked eye). As I grade conservatively, I can't give this a Near Mint even though the flaws might go unnoticed to others so the resultant grade is VG++                   VERY GOOD PLUS (VG+): A VG+ record is “except for a couple minor factors, would be Near Mint.” VG+ records may show some slight signs of wear, including light scuffs or very light scratches that do not affect the listening experience. Slight warps that do not affect the sound are OK. Minor signs of handling are OK, also. There may be some very faint signs of  ring wear or discoloration, but it should be barely noticeable. VG+ covers should have only minor wear. A VG+ cover might have some very minor seam wear or a split (less than one inch long) at the bottom, the most vulnerable location. Also, a VG+ cover may have some defacing, such as a cut-out marking. Covers with cut-out markings can never be considered Near Mint.                   VERY  GOOD (VG): records may have more obvious flaws than their counterparts in better shape. They lack most of the original gloss found on factory-fresh records. Groove wear is evident on sight, as are light scratches deep enough to feel with a fingernail. When played, a VG record may have surface noise, and some scratches may be audible, especially in soft passages and during a song’s intro and ending. But the noise will not overpower the music otherwise. Minor writing, tape or a sticker can detract from the label. Many collectors who have jukeboxes will use VG records in them and not think twice. They remain a fine listening experience, just not the same as if it were in  better shape. VG covers will have many signs of human handling. Ring wear in the middle or along the edges of the cover where the edge of a record would reside, is obvious, though not overwhelming. Some more creases might be visible. Seam splitting will be more obvious; it may appear on all three sides, though it won’t be obvious upon looking. Someone might have written or it or stamped a price tag on it, too     6. GOOD (G), POOR (P) or FAIR (F): Do not plan on selling any records that fall into these cagtegories
