The final Canned Heat album to feature co-founder Alan Wilson, 'Future Blues' was also one of their best, surprisingly restrained as a studio creation by the band, the whole thing clocking in at under 36 minutes, as long as some single jams on their live discs.
It was also one of their most stylistically diverse efforts.
Most of what's here is very concise and accessible, even the one group-composed jam — Alan Wilson's "Shake It and Break It" and his prophetically titled "My Time Ain't Long" (he died the year this record was issued), which also sounds a lot like a follow-up to "Going up the Country" until its final, very heavy, and up-close guitar coda.
Dr. John appears, playing piano on the dark, ominous "London Blues," and arranges the horns on "Skat," which tries a completely different kind of sound — late-'40s-style jump blues . And the band also turns in a powerhouse heavy guitar version of Wilbert Harrison's "Let's Work Together" which was a huge UK chart hit
Track Listing:
Side A: Sugar Bee / Shake It And Break It / That's All Right, Mama / My Time Ain't Long / Skat / Let's Work Together
Side B: London Blues / So Sad (The World's In A Tangle) / Future Blues
LABELS: The labels are clean and bright with just a couple of light spidery spindles and some light rubbing around the spindle hole (there are the initials 'GR' on Side Two but these are very small and not particularly intrusive - please see photos)
VINYL Visual: Both surfaces retain their original deep, glossy sheen and are practically unmarked
VINYL Audio: Outstanding audio delivery in all respects with a crystal clear, deep, rich, warm and detailed sound and on playback at a loud volume (which is how I always listen to my LPs prior to listing) there are no scratches, no sticks or jumps, no loud clicks or pops and no real surface noise. This is a beautifully clean pressing which plays to a very, very high standard with great clarity, no groove-wear, no distortion, sounds superb and is strictly graded NEAR MINT for audio - great copy - practically flawless sound
SLEEVE: The outer laminated gatefold is clean and unmarked with a deep glossy sheen to the outer laminated surfaces and and a clean, unmarked inside. The top and bottom edges show hardly any wear (just a little corner 'bumping') but there are some light creases to the spine (very minor) - all text is clear and bold. Overall, a very fine example - EXCELLENT
