DESCRIPTION

Cal Tjader Quintet - “Mambo With Tjader” Fantasy Records 8057 (Stereo) from 1962. Hard to Find Original 1962 U.S. First Stereo Pressing of this great Latin / Jazz album from the Cal Tjader Quintet featuring Tjader along with Manuel Duran, Carlos Duran, Edgard Rosales and Bayardo Velarde. While this is technically a reissue of 1955’s Fantasy 3-202 “Mambo With Tjader” by Cal Tjader’s Modern Mambo Quintet, this is the First Stereo pressing. On the Blue with Champagne Gold / Silver Print Fantasy labels and in the Original Shrink Wrapped Cover with No Cutouts, Promo markings or Barcode. The cover has the “Full Radial Stereo - Fantasy 8057” Sticker pasted over the Mono info on the front cover.

CONDITION

The Sleeve is in its Original Shrink Wrap and in great shape. There is a tiny bit corner softening and some very slight wear along the opening edge but otherwise pretty much perfect. Super solid with no splits, stains, tears, cutouts, writing, etc. and would rate at least EX and really I think still Near Mint. The Vinyl is in clean Glossy condition looking lightly played. If you look closely you can spot a couple light scuffs and faint hairlines - no actual scratches i.e. something you can feel with a fingernail. VG+ visually and mostly plays EX or better but with a couple spots of faint groove noise and a couple random soft tics, nothing that distracts and might be further improved with a better cleaning than I can give with my Discwasher brush. The labels show some spindle trails but are otherwise NM.

TERMS AND DEFINITIONS

Records are graded to the best of my ability to Goldmine Visual standards. If I provide Play Grades it is done as a courtesy but I only guarantee the Visual Grade. If you are not familiar with this grading system (or even if you think you are!), please check it out before bidding. I have summarized the important (i.e. I think everyone knows what Mint means) points below in Goldmine's words:
Very Good Plus (VG+): Record surfaces may show some slight signs of wear and may have slight scuffs or very light scratches that don't affect one's listening experience. Slight warps that do not affect the sound are OK.
Very Good (VG): Surface noise will be evident upon playing,... Groove wear will start to be noticeable, as will light scratches (deep enough to feel with a fingernail) that will affect the sound.
I stand by my grades but would like us to be on the same page so no problems arise. I have been selling Vintage Vinyl for over twenty years on the net and I can count the returns I've had on one hand so I believe my grading is fair and accurate. One important note, I try to grade to these Goldmine guides as best as I can understand and apply them. This gives us both a written standard to go by rather than having to guess. But.... it also means that I don't issue refunds over differences of opinion in grading i.e. "That's not MY idea of a VG record!" - I don't know what your standards are and, as such, can't grade to them. I guarantee that items I sell will meet my description, nothing more or less!
