Description
Original copy of Don Byrd's "Byrd's Eye View" on the Transition label.
Very rare jazz album from 1955 featuring Donald Byrd, Hank Mobley, Horace Silver, Art Blakey, Doug Watkins, and Joe Gordon
Condition: If you are reading this far, then you know this album is extremely rare and sought after. That said, I am a fanatic record collector and don't normally sell any of my collection - I have over 12,000 albums in my collection and have been an extreme collector for over 10 years.
So I want to tell you EXACTLY what you are getting here - I am grading this VG all the way around but I am going to give you more information than most online sellers since this is a big purchase decision for most of you.
This record needs a good cleaning - if you have access to a record vacuum or want to use the wood glue method to clean it up. I cleaned it the best I could with conventional cleaner.
Side One: There is some surface noise. I think a lot of it would subside after the cleaning. A lot of it subsided after I cleaned it. There are sections with no noticeable surface noise. The worst surface noise is at the very beginning of Side One because it is a bass solo and there is a lot of dead air. In my opinion, after listening to this several times, the noise does not overpower the music, with the exception of the quiet intro I mentioned.
There are no scratches on Side One and I did not notice any pops or skips while playing it.
Side Two: There is some surface noise but the music is louder and it is not as noticeable.
There are no scratches or skips, but about 4 quick pops during the first song. These are not repetitive pops as if there is a scratch it keeps hitting every time it goes around, it is just one quick pop then on with the music.
Holding it under the light, I could not locate the source of these pops. I think they could be eliminated with a good cleaning.
There is one quick louder pop at the beginning of the second song. I could see the small knick that causes it. It does not skip, but it is more noticeable than the others and probably not fixable.
The second half of Side Two plays great with minimal surface noise if any at all.
The Transition Label is missing on Side 2 (See Photo)
The Jacket: The jacket looks nice but it was taped at the Top Right Seam and at the Center Spine.
There is NO BOOKLET with this copy.
Okay... I wanted to be totally up front and honest with this listing. This could become a higher priced item and I want to make sure you know what you are bidding on. I think you will be pleasantly surprised when you enjoy the album.
