SPIRAL SCRATCH EP
BREAKDOWN / TIME'S UP / BOREDOM / FRIENDS OF MINE
ORIGINAL NEW HORMONES RELEASE (ORG 1) 1977
1,000 COPIES ONLY (NO HOWARD DEVOTO CREDIT ON SLEEVE)
Ok Buzzcocks fans...here it is! The one and only original copy of Spiral Scratch! As you probably know, there were only 1,000 of these pressed originally...
"The band, having no record label support, had to borrow £500 from their friends and families to pay for the record's production and manufacture. The EP was released 29 January 1977 on the band's own New Hormones label, making Buzzcocks the first English punk group to establish an independent record label. Despite this, the disc quickly sold out its initial run of 1,000 copies and went on to sell 16,000 copies on its second pressing.".
This is one of those first 1,000 copies and, unlike many, if not most of the original set, this one has managed to stay in amazingly good shape for the last 35 years! It has the plastic die-cast labels, not the later paper ones.
I've put loads of photos up for you to look at. As you can see, the record is an easy EX. The vinyl is virtually free of all but the lightest of trace markings and there are no pops/clicks/jumps. It plays through perfectly on both sides. Notice the translucency of the vinyl (looks like it was pressed out of old bin bags!). This is in the vinyl itself and is not a later defect.
The sleeve is intact, free from writing, tears and any other defects. It is very thin and flimsy (like all of the early punk singles pressed at the Delga press plant). Remarkably clean for something so delicate! It has a little creasing to the front and a slight record impression on the back, but by and large, it is very clean indeed, as I hope the pictures show! I would, given its provenence, grade it as EX- !
All in all, this is probably one of the best copies of an original 'Spiral Scratch' that you're likely to see. Sound copies like this are getting very rare now, as most of them are in private collections already. Why not make this one part of yours?!
Paypal only please.
I will post overseas, but please ask for postal charges first, as it'll probably need sending via 'signed for/insured' post which can be a bit pricey!

Happy bidding!
