I grade my records very conservatively and that 's why you see the grading you do.

This Buddy Holly DECCA LP is the Holy Grail of Rock and Roll!  It's the one everyone wants! Book value approaches $500.  Working on the premise that the record you see here has 10% of the book retail value, you are looking at quite a bargain!

The record plays well on both sides with no skips or jumps. The first two cuts on side one have some hiss and crackle but you can hear well the music and the words. The rest of the record sounds really good.  There are light marks on the vinyl on each side. The labels look like they have been written on in pencil but the record label printing is clean and legible. There is no inner sleeve.  The top spine of the cover is completely split and not closed. The bottom spine has a two inch split. The back side (opposite the opening) has an inch and a half split at the bottom corner and slightly more than a two and half inch split at the top corner. On the back side it looks like a price tag was removed but you can see the residue at the promo for the Bobby Helms record below the DL 8707. Some photos may appear a bit blurry. That's just my photography skills, not the item.

A little history: 
The DECCA DL 8707 THAT'LL BE THE DAY  is one of only three albums released during Buddy's lifetime before the day the music died. These recordings were made in 1956 as Decca was his first recording label. Decca released only two singles from the sessions.  DECCA didn't think much of Buddy and his Crickets so they let him go.  This Decca LP isn't the version that was heard on the radio or what we hear now.  This original release actually has lesser known Buddy & Crickets tunes.
