Rare and obscure Heavy Metal / NWOBHM 7" single by BRUNEL on the small Monarch label 1980
THIS IS THE VERY HARD TO FIND AND ULTRA OBSCURE 1st 7" by this NWOBHM cult band,an absolute must in your collection,most people don´t even know that there was a 1st single before the ASTRAL LADY 7",it´s NOT EVEN mentioned in the NWOBHM ENCYCLOPEDIA ,probably will be in the update edition,this is the story,
In the early years, the band consisted of lead guitarists George Cook and Keith Haggis, vocalist Nobby, drummer Julis Gamski, and bassist Peter Franich. The band performed regularly in and around South London pubs and colleges – with a residency at the Two Brewers pub. Notably, the band had a very large biker following at one time.
Brunel was the first band to sign with Gateway Studios, Clapham, which had just upgraded from 4 to 8 track recording. The studio went on to become the Gateway School of Music.
The original lineup released one single, Don't Call Us We'll Call You / Heroes. Cook states "Don't Call Us Well Call You" was a satire on the Two Brewers pub in Clapham High Street - which had "kept knocking the band back" – ironically, the pub would later become one of the band's residencies (in the 80s, Two Brewers was a part of the vibrant London pub scene, in league with Golden Lion Fulham, where the band had also performed).
George Cook left the band around 1981, and was soon replaced by Steve McLoughlin. Keith Haggis left shortly after. This incarnation of Brunel, with the new guitarists, went on to record their single Astral Lady / Southside Suzy. During the recording of the single, McLoughlin notes "some ratbag broke into the rehearsal room we were using at the time and nicked a load of gear including my cherished Marshall JTM45 and Roland GR300 guitar synth" - forcing McLoughlin to cobble together borrowed gear to record the single.
McLoughlin, who stayed with the band until the group's demise in early 1983, sees their breakup as a shame, he notes the band was finally getting positive feedback from some record companies from "Astral Lady" and "Southside Suzy", which the group had used as a demo when shopping for labels.

This is a must in every Heavy Metal / NWOBHM collection and doesn´t turn up that often,very seldom on Ebay.
