Description
A rare item from 38 years ago. My buddies and I all bought a set. They used theirs, and I didn't use mine, since I was over at their homes more than I was at mine. This is a Third Edition set printed in 1979. It is 1 of a 1000 sets produced in 1979. It is in excellent shape. I have been the only owner and the only time I ever handled the cards was to count them today to verify that all 123 cards were still in the box. . The cards are in as new shape. no stains, or bends. The cards were never shuffled. The box is in good shape considering it has been packed up and moved twice.
These cards were created to help jostle your brain if you had reached a dead spot in your creativity.
In 1970, Peter Schmidt created "The Thoughts Behind the Thoughts", a box containing 55 sentences letterpress printed onto disused prints that accumulated in his studio, which is still in the possession of Brian Eno. Brian Eno, who had known Peter Schmidt since the late 1960s, had been pursuing a similar project himself (which he had handwritten onto a number of bamboo cards and given the name "Oblique Strategies" in 1974). There was a significant overlap between the two projects, and so, in late 1974, Schmidt and Eno combined them into a single pack of cards and offered them for general sale. The set went through three limited edition printings before Schmidt suddenly died in early 1980.
The First Edition printing was 500 sets printed in 1974. The Second Edition was 1000 sets printed in 1978. The Third Edition was 1000 sets printed in 1979.
