James Horner, the American composer who grew up between Los Angeles and London's classical circles, had a rare instinct for turning historical drama into something intimate, and this score remains one of his clearest examples. 'Main Title' sets the emotional tone straight away, a slow build of pipes and strings that anchors the story in Scotland's landscape rather than its myth. 'A Gift Of A Thistle' and 'The Secret Wedding' lean into softer Celtic phrasing, the melodies almost whispered. On the later sides, 'Sons Of Scotland' and 'The Battle Of Stirling' carry more weight, pulling choir, bodhran and full orchestra into sharp, driving shapes. 'For The Love Of A Princess' and 'Freedom/The Execution Bannockburn' bring the score back to its melancholic core. It's Horner at his most sweeping and deeply felt.
