Music By : Laxmikant Pyarelal

Original Print

SOUL OF BOBBY - 1974 original soundtrack LP ( background music score )

ODEON records - India - composed and conducted by LAXMIKANT PYARELAL

legendary LP which needs no introduction ! a great blend of incredible psych, funk, jazz, beautiful melodies, dreamy & sinister drama tunes plus wild groove moves done with an avant garde mood.

A legendary record in its own right, this background music LP ( no vocals of the score, only the complete background score itself ) is pure Bollywood madness with wild horns, large strings section, searing fuzz, surf guitars, wordless vocals, jungle beats hued with big Bollywood drama scoring!

Fantastic and v-e-r-y rare LP !

One of the top ten "most remarkable Bollywood LP's of all time", in my humble opinion.

"Bobby" was a big curtain raiser in 1973's Indian film industry, produced by Raj Kapoor. It's commonly regarded by Bollywood cognoscenti that until 1975's "Sholay", many thought Bobby would be in the "top legend" status where Sholay is now. The movie's success also was reflected on the soundtrack LP which consisted of the songs featured in the movie.. BUT, this LP is not the one with the usual Hindi songs. Probably after the huge success of the film, it was decided that also the background music of the film should also be committed to wax and hence we have the aptly titled "Soul of Bobby" LP released a year later in 1974 but flopped as far as the sale figures were concerned. The LP with the usual songs made it very well but this one sold zilch, hence it's high rarity today... but what an LP this is.

this LP contains the music which was used as soundtrack layout for some of the scenes. The disc starts quite nicely in usual Bollywood tradition but soon picks up a pace then goes wallop! It sounds like an asylum-resident crazed-composer's bad trip -- swift and tsunami-like swirls and changes of tempo and mood, not to mention the music styles.. it's rare to see a seamless blending of heavy fuzz psychedelia with mambo, insane percussion with crime-funk horns and sinister mid-tempo dreamy wordless vocals & flute on a huge hip hop style beat. It's genius meets insanity and has that feeling all over: it "sounds" and "feels" dangerous. This is Laxmikant-Pyarelal's absolute best.
