An overall nice copy of this 1960 US 1st press jazz gem, with the impressive audio quality being the undoubted highlight

1960 BOBBY TIMMONS gem on cherished US Riverside record label label : very good (VG) condition vinyl, nice and thick and completely flat, with earliest A/B matrices and, in normal daylight the vinyl gives off a nice black sheen. With closer inspection a number of hairlines and small, light scuff marks come into view along with some areas of mild "dulling". On A5 there are two tiny marks (one of which is just feelable) and a little line scuffing which are slightly more prominent but the only impact upon the sound quality is a few rotations of very, very light crackle. On B1 there are also two tiny scuff marks, one of which is again just feelable - these small blemishes result in x8 mild clicks followed by a further x8 mild clicks - nothing nasty, and certainly no jumps or repeats, but just audible nonetheless. Any other blemishes are minor, non-feelable, surface only, and do not seem to impinge upon the excellent MONO sound quality at all. Excellent (EX) condition labels, each with the first press circular groove, with just a few small & extremely faint spindle trails next to the centre hole on each. Very good (VG) condition non-aminated thick cardboard outer sleeve. The main outer sleeve blemish is an edge split along the entirety of the top edge - possibly repairable and at least it is not accompanied by any ugly vertical tears. Other than that obvious glitch the edges remain firm, though there is some mild scuffing on the bottom edge and some ageing on the spine (where all spine text remains legible). Each corner remains a right angle though there is rubbing on each and a seam split on the top left corner. All text on the reverse side remains intact (with first press BILL GRAUER credits and the "235 West 46th Street New York 36" text) with just some light and occasional storage/wear marks - very trivial. Very good plus (VG+) MONO audio quality with no skips, jumps, repeats or sticks. The only clicks are the aforementioned clicks on the first track of side 2 and the very occasional and very background non-intrusive click (I counted four in total) I think due to dust in the grooves resulting from decades of storage since I could find no other obvious cause; there is no interference or distortion, and any background crackle is extremely light, very occasional, and non-intrusive...negligible in fact (apart from the slightly more noticeable aforementioned A5 crackle, and even this is very mild). Overall, great tone with crystal clear MONO audio quality and Bobby Timmons at the top of his game - a great listen! Comes with plain white die-cut inner sleeve. A true very early 60's jazz gem - highly sought after, becoming very hard to find and this copy remains a great listen and highly collectable even though it has some obvious blemishes.

Note that I always insert the vinyl into a new plain white poly-lined inner sleeve in order to protect the original during postage, and separate this from the outer sleeve to prevent seam splits. I use thick cardboard stiffeners and take great care in my packaging to ensure as far as possible that these precious records reach their destination in exactly the same condition as when they leave me.
