Description
- Artist & Title: Bobby Charles Featuring The Voice Of Kenny Gordon – Invades The Wells Fargo Lounge
- Label & Cat #: 1968 Fenton Records – FS 321 Stereo
- Vinyl Grade: Very Good Plus (VG+) play graded *Side 1 is clean and plays Excellent. Side 2 has 3-4 spindle marks which impacted "By The Time I Get To Phoenix" track resulting in ticking throughout a lot of the song (VG grade). This was the only track really affected and the other 5 tracks on Side 2 played great.
- Cover Grade: Very Good Plus (VG+) *some light wear on front and mild wear on top seam; signed by Kenny Gordon on top rh corner on back of cover
- Notes: Rare live recording from 1968 made at a nightclub attached to a bowling alley called the "Wells Fargo Lounge" in Moline, Illinois. I say 'rare' since Fenton Records was a small independent record label which operated in Sparta, Michigan in the mid to late 60's, and mainly known for recording garage bands. The label was founded by David Kalmbach, who packed up his recording equipment and hit the road to record one of his label's artists from Grand Rapids, organist Bobby Charles. The guitarist on the album is "the world's greatest unknown guitarist" Danny Gatton in what is possibly his very first recording (google him). The vocals by Kenny Gordon are a main highlight and he is a stellar lounge entertainer. The crowd is appreciative and energetic adding to the overall listening pleasure. Some edgier material heard on the album is the John D Loudermilk song "Break My Mind" and "Walk on the Wild Side from the 1962 film. There is also a great "Zorba the Greek" cover, as well as a nice cover "ode to Billy Joe" and "By the Time I get to Phoenix."

GRADING STANDARDS:
(M) Mint: Record and cover appear absolutely perfect in every way. Grade is seldom used, even with sealed albums where the record itself can only be assumed to be mint.
(NM) Near Mint: Vinyl is shiny with no obvious signs of wear and plays perfectly with no audible imperfections. Cover is close to perfect with minor signs of wear or age just becoming evident.
(EX or VG++) Excellent /Very Good ++: Record or jacket has a minimum of audible or visual imperfections. Vinyl has been handled and played very carefully. Light paper scuffs and/or spindle marks may be visible with no appreciable lessening in sound quality. Covers show very minor signs of handling and wear.
(VG+) Very Good Plus: Record displays light scuffs, spindle marks or very light scratches that may create some noise disturbances, but don't affect one's overall listening experience. Jacket begins to show more prominent signs of storage wear and aging.
(VG) Very Good: Defects are more pronounced with visible signs of handling and playing. Surface noise is evident upon playing, especially during soft passages and a song's intro and fade, but will not overpower the music otherwise. Covers may be marred by writing, or have tape or stickers (or their residue) attached, although none of the flaws should be overwhelming.
(G) Good / (G+)Good Plus: Vinyl will have scratches and visible groove wear. Record plays without skipping, although noticeable surface noise or ticks will be heard. Jackets have even more pronounced defects such as seam splits, tape, writing, ring wear, water damage or other defects.
