"Ain't Nothing You Can Do" by Bobby Bland
1964 Duke LP (DLP-78)
Original Release from Duke - not Reissue. Label reads Houston 26, Texas. Back cover shows a zipcode; zips first came into use in 1963.
We are guided in grading by Goldmine standards as printed in 1960's. We take a Plus sign very seriously. We see very, very few albums that are truly NM or M- which, to us, should be 'like new'.
FYI we do not see many Albums on the heavy vinyl of the 1960's that come through in condition as fine as this as to Vinyl and Sleeve.
Vinyl: VG+ Slight surface noise can be heard at times on Side B chiefly during first 2-3 songs. Unable detect same on Side A. Vinyl shows marks from paper sleeve, and a few other superficial lines. The album plays very, very well - almost perfect. It is arguably Excellent (VG++), however we would always rather error on side of being too conservative. Please refer photos. (right side of Vinyl pics shows reflections not on LP - left side gives good representation. It has been in our possession since 1980's during which time it was played very lightly. We can see it was played some prior to obtaining this. It was clearly well cared for.
Sleeve: VG+. The sleeve is excellent. From front it looks 'like new'. It has been downgraded due to the Deejay like notes rating the songs - writing is in ink and viewable in photos.

Album Review
Fine, soulful mid-'60s sides, including the title track, "Loneliness Hurts," and a cathartic reading of the soul classic "Blind Man. AllMusic
Bobby's music for Duke seems an essential step in the creation of what people began to refer to as R&B and later soul. It is not that R&B didn't exist well before Bland's albums for Duke. It is the fact that Bland's recordings received widespread attention. It is Bland's success that makes his contributions to Blues, R&B and Soul most noteworthy. While these were recorded in Texas, we think of this more in the Memphis style of blues and R&B in the mid 1960's. While AllMusic is right to note the two tracks named above; it should be mentioned that there simply are no weak tracks on this LP. Bobby's "Steal Away" has always seemed very special to us. Well, everyone has their favorites. This is a terrific album. We think the only one we'd prefer owning of his early Duke LP's would be "Two Steps From The Blues". Round 'n Round
