Here’s a legendary release from 1973 on the original Jamaican Tuff Gong label

The Zippo cover is un-attached and does definitely show some wear. Please keep in mind that the actual amount that were produced in Jamaica is a very, very small number as compared to more populated, larger and financially sound countries. As the condition of this rarity is not something I’d be offering if it was a common album, I decided to seal both parts of the Original cover in separate outer plastic sleeves to avoid any chance of an edge or part of the Zippo catching on something and causing damage. It’s not like I’m storing the vinyl in the cover so protected it remains. Still a very acceptable looking relic. An absolute historical release for those of us who care about such things.

Good news-The record plays beautifully. I just gave it a final listen and aside from one click in a run out groove at the very end it’s all great. No background noise just deep bass Jamaican vinyl. There are NO skips and nothing can be felt when running your fingers over the surface. Very nice condition. The labels are clean and fully bled in that original Tuff Gong red.

There are a few manufacturers flaws that can be observed in the photos that DO NOT AFFECT PLAYBACK AT ALL.

On side (1) is what I believe to be a piece of label paper pressed directly into the vinyl. No problem, plays without any noise. It’s part of the record in true Jamaican style record pressing tradition.

On side (2) is a bit of a lighter colored vinyl mixed into the black mostly on track one, again not an issue at all. Nothing more than a touch of a yellow/white vinyl.

A Side Note:

While I visited Jamaica some years back, I went on several side excursions specifically looking for this pressing. Like being in England and buying Beatles records, I assumed it would be much easier to find a copy in the country where it originated only to be told it’s considered a very rare record there as much as anywhere else, maybe even more so due to Bob’s standing as a deity in Jamaica.

There originally weren’t many produced and after the initial pressing it was quickly replaced with the much less expensive to manufacture, single pocket cover of Bob toking away on a fat dubbie. This was the only acceptable copy I was able to acquire (much to my disappointment). If you’re considering this record I assume you probably knew that already but I like telling this story as just another little tidbit for the record collecting community.

PS: I’m listing a set of Bob Marley (& The Wailers) pressings from Jamaica in different listings this week on eBay. These records were all “Made In Jamaica” and therefore are of a quality that most Jamaican records from the period exhibit.

As I always do with all my vinyl listings, any known flaws will be pointed out. The provided photos are taken under bright photography lamps leaving no stone unturned. Any record you end up with will most definitely look better as you hold it in normal lighting but I want you to know what you’re getting if you should decide to add any of them to your record shelf.

The vinyl used for pressing in Jamaica during those Wailer years was anything but virgin so I’ll do my best to describe audio quality for each record. As a collector of Jamaican pressings I allow a certain amount of leeway for first pressings or rare records in keeping with that “artist - country of region” collectibility.
