This auction is for a very rare 1964 pressing on green vinyl of The Wailers I Don't Need Your Love and Simmer Down on the Jamaican Record Company Coxsone Records C110 / C111. This album is extremely rare and highly sought after as it is Bob Marley's first hit record. Another identical copy of this album was sold in March of 2005 in an online auction of rare Bob Marley records and recieved the highest bid out of the 34 records that were put up for sale. The second pressing of this album was realeased crediting the album to "Bob Marley & The Wailers." The album is in VERY GOOD condition with no rips or tears on the label and both sides play all of the way through with absolutely NO skipping. I prefer paypal but will also accept money orders. Both sides recorded circa July 6th 1964. The single was a hit in Jamaica in August 1964.
Record History:
In 1963, Bob Marley, Bunny Livingston, Peter McIntosh, Junior Braithwaite, Beverley Kelso, and Cherry Smith formed a ska and rocksteady group, calling themselves "The Teenagers". They later changed their name to "The Wailing Rudeboys", then to "The Wailing Wailers", and finally to "The Wailers". Much of The Wailers' early work, including their first single Simmer Down, was produced by Coxsone Dodd at Studio One. Simmer Down topped Jamaican Charts in 1964 and established The Wailers as one of the hottest groups in the country. The song Simmer Down was directed to the "Rude Boys" of the ghettos of Jamaica at the time, sending them a message to cool down or "Simmer Down" with all the violence and crime going on in Kingston. The subject matter of "Simmer Down" made The Wailers stand out amongst their contemporaries. The Wailers at this time contained Bob Marley, Bunny Wailer, Peter Tosh, Junior Braithwaite and Beverley Kelso. It was Bob Marley's first hit and his career as a song writer and performer took off from there.
