A whole book could probably be written about the story of how the songs for this legendary album were chosen for inclusion/exclusion prior to release in the Spring of 1963.  I will not get into it in an in-depth way for this listing. I imagine those interested already know most of the details. If not, there are plenty of sites on the internet that will give you a fairly concise history regarding this very interesting story.  
Both the Canadian and U.S. 1st pressings of 'Freewheelin' are rare and valuable....but for entirely different reasons.

In brief, when this record was initially pressed for release in May 1963 (in the U.S.), there were 4 songs that were NOT supposed to be included. They are as follows....'Talkin' John Birch Society Blues', 'Let Me Die In My Footsteps', 'Rocks and Gravel', and 'Gamblin' Willie'.  A few Mono and Stereo copies were not caught in time and got through. Those few Lps are now worth huge amounts of money. But it must be noted that those records were all found in jackets that already had the revised list of songs printed on the cover.  
 In Canada, the release had a slightly different problem...more to do with the printing side of the issue. There were printing errors on the front cover and on the back. As was the custom by Columbia Records in New York in the 1960s, they sent the photo-plate/negative for the front/back cover art to the offices of their Canadian division in Don Mills, Ontario. This was done to integrate or harmonize with the albums May release date. However, this was done too hastily (even BEFORE U.S. White Label Promos for this title were pressed!) and unbeknownst to Columbia Records management, Dylan would have had a potential lawsuit on his hands if one of the songs were included on the record ('Talkin' John Birch Society Blues') .  Moreover, Dylan and his manager also felt that 3 other songs should be replaced to improve the "flow and rhythm" between the songs on the album. Consequently, this lack of communication between all parties is the reason why the track listing on the front cover lists 4 songs that are NOT on the record. They are: 'Solid Road', 'Let Me Die In My Footsteps', 'Gamblin' Willie', and 'Talkin' John Birch Society Blues'.  The printing error on back of the cover mistakenly omits the 1st song on Side 2, 'Don't Think Twice, It's All Right'. In addition, there is also a spelling error to one of the songs on the front cover. 'Hard Rain Gonna Fall' ...when in fact it should say, 'A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall'. This was later corrected on subsequent releases. 
 
Because the grading of this record varies quite a bit, and due to the album's historical significance, exceptionally, I've decided to grade the audio for each song individually.

Cover:  Excellent(minus).....Printed 60 years ago and in amazing condition for it's age.  Some minor corner wear...a small, almost imperceptible 1cm split at bottom right corner....very minor and inoffensive edge wear....spine is near-perfect. The front and back of the cover are exceptionally clean. Take a good look at the pictures I've uploaded....I doubt a cleaner copy of this exceedingly rare withdrawn cover exists.  
Record: Please see above for song by song grading.  The thick and heavy vinyl still has an almost like-new shine....under strong light only one or two small marks are visible...the rest are just very faint hairlines undoubtedly caused by removing the record from the inner-sleeve a few times.  The deep-grooved labels are almost flawless and show only a few spindle marks. The Mono audio is  beautifully detailed and warm....and the stark sound of Dylan's voice and guitar on some of the tracks is the best I've heard from any pressing.
