Description

The classic Dylan poster "Blowing in the Mind"

A Martin Sharpe masterpiece of psychedelic poster art

Printed red on gold foil fronted very heavy paper stock

Very rare to find mint copies of this poster, prices are £500 plus for such an item.

Now, this poster was rescued by me in the early 1970's from a record store that was closing, and as such is in used condition with the following defects.

The poster has lost an inch or so all the way round to necessitate fitting into a frame (see illustration).

Whilst this does not detract from the overall feel of the poster, I felt I had to make this clear. The overall size is 59.3cm x 42cm.

Over time the poster has become slightly damaged, unfortunately, the photo does not show the defects so let me categorise them.

There is a scuffed area to the bottom of the main 'mandala' above Dylan's head - the red ink has worn away, and whilst noticeable on close inspection, isn't really noticeable from a distance.

There are 3 main creases: one is 90mm long and runs from the top of the right-hand lens of the sunglasses to the edge of the poster, another is of similar length and runs just underneath the right-hand edge of the sunglasses to the edge of the poster. The final crease runs down the left-hand side of his nose for approx 20mm and again 20mm near the bottom of his chin

There is a crease related rip that runs 10mm in from the right-hand edge of the poster (starting at the second main crease) and runs vertically for approx 10cm

There are other minor defects which are visible under close-scrutiny, but when framed do not appear (ie from a distance).

On the reverse of the poster are 4 brown parallel tape marks that run the entire length of the poster, and also a brown area where tape has been used to mend the rip.

Having said all that the reverse side would not be noticable at all when framed, and all other defects can only be expected in a poster of this age, and considering its location, etc.

This really is an opportunity to own such a rare poster, and although it is not in mint condition, I have set a price I consider to be fair bearing in mind it is in used condition.

NB THE LIGHTING USED TO TAKE THE PHOTOGRAPH MAKES THE POSTER APPEAR ALMOST 'DAYGLO' THIS IS NOT THE CASE, IT IS A MUCH MORE SUBTLE USE OF COLOUR - Although in the right conditions the metallic ink really shines!
