Columbia Records CL 1779 VG++/VG+ mono Stamped Matrix Nos.XLP-55619-1A/XLP-55620-1A US original album, absolute 1st pressing!!! Pressed on the famous 6-eye red Columbia labels with 1A stampers, this is RARE!!! This album is 45 years old and is a HISTORICAL piece of music history!! Front cover has round silver sticker with a star which reads, A NEW STAR ON COLUMBIA RECORDS. Back cover has stamp, DEMONSTRATION NOT FOR SALE. Certainly ONE of the RAREST and hardest to find of any US pressing of Dylan's famous 1st album!!! I believe the story is, this album is NOT a radio station white label promo pressing, but rather a stock pressing with the unique cover sticker and back stamp which was distributed to record stores in the first carton of Dylan's 1st album as Columbia Records shipped it out. Their theory was to promote this Dylan album as their "new" recording artist, and presented this copy as a demo to each store to display. Thus. the beautiful sticker on the front cover and the demo stamp on the back. I need not describe the music, as it is certainly a RARE piece of music history and a must for the Dylan collector!!! Now the condition. In general, the cover is pretty clean with a solid spine and nice corners. Specifically, the silver sticker is 3 inches round, with NO tears, smallest bit of dirt smudging, but clean printing. The back cover has a small amount of light staining, but the pink DEMO stamp is centered and clean. A solid very good plus!!! The vinyl has a minimal amount light scuffs on side 1, grade is very good plus. Side 2, there is a scuff on track 3 and track 6, a slightly less grade than side 1. NOT NEAR MINT, but considering its RARITY and AGE!!! The labels have spindle marks, more on side 1 than 2, and the side 2 label has a 1 inch gum residue, probably left from a demonstration sticker. But, the RARITY here is the cover, true the vinyl is important, but the COVER is just so RARE!!! Again what more can I say, a masterpiece album, one of modern music all-time greatest ever, and a unique PROMO cover!!! This RARE pressing is a nice piece, again NO NEAR MINT but unique and RARE!! ! ***PLEASE NOTE*** I clean all my records with a NITTY GRITTY Professional Record cleaning machine if necessary. I pack records carefully. Records are placed outside of the album cover in a record sleeve. Albums are bubbled wrapped for safety and mailed in a strong cardboard record mailer box!!!
