Description
Blue Epitaph Ode LP Holyground HG117 VG/VG- 1974 gatefold sleeve, mono. Folk, psych, prog. Legendary much sought after LP, only 99 copies pressed - it's highly unlikely you'll see another. Matrix Nos HG+117+1 & HG+117+2. OR in run-off groove. Vinyl looks and plays VG- with light noise and odd crackle throughout, some pops but still very enjoyable. There is scratch towards the end of Diane and into the next track. It lasts for 17 revolutions in total. The mark looks like a paper clip. There are other odd light marks some of which are audible but only last for less than 10 revolutions. The record has been played a lot and has been fairly well looked after. The acoustic guitars are still crisp and clear.
Textured label with flatter rim of the type you see on Rediffusion records in the 1970s. It also has the square white poly inner (quite creased) which you found on these Rediffusion records too. Sleeve is VG because it has a stain which begins at the bottom of the spine. It looks like a water stain and at some stage when the sleeve has been opened it has taken the print off some of the bottom 2cm of the inside of the sleeve. This loss starts at the spine and goes along the bottom of the inside of the sleeve for about 12cm (see scans). Rest of sleeve has some light foxing especially on the rear. I've been in touch with James Gordon to verify that the label is that of the original and it looks real to him. Here is some of what he kindly mailed back this week.
'I have two but haven´t considered selling them although the records are totally mint the sleeves are stained. In my youthful eagerness and never thinking in the seventies that one day the records would be collectable I wrote the numbers 001 and 002 on the covers thinking I was being cool. The records were mostly sold to students at Bretton who probably bought them as a souvenir of college. It was not so common to produce recordings of any type back then, unlike today where anyone with a PC and some skill can produce relatively high quality productions at home. I would imagine that very few come on the market because of the sentimental value and also so few were produced. Even Mike Levon did not have an original copy. I offered to give him one of mine but he never took me up on the offer and as you probably know Mike died a couple of years back, so anything by Holyground will have a tendency to go up in value. Regards Jim.'
At thespacebar.records most of our stock is UNPLAYED and in NEAR-PERFECT condition but is graded conservatively. We try to provide the best image possible and we don't trim the photographs so you can clearly see the sleeve edges.
We grade the vinyl 1st and the sleeve (if applicable) 2nd. We offer discounted shipping for multiple-item orders
