Black Sabbath S/T self titled original UK vertigo swirl LP.
Welcome to my vinyl record auction for:
Black Sabbath S/T self titled original UK vertigo swirl gatefold LP.
Catalogue number: VO6 847903 VTY
Label: Vertigo swirl
Year: 1970
Matrix numbers: 1Y1/ 2Y1
Pressing: UK pressing
Cover: Original unlaminated gatefold with correct VO6 price code on the back
Additional info:
In addition to the 1Y1 / 2Y1 matrix numbers, the ‘VERTIGO’ is below the hole on the label with a large swirl above the label indicating this is one of the earliest pressings of the vinyl (later more common presses have ‘Vertigo’ above the hole and a smaller swirl). Comes in an original unlaminated gatefold bearing the correct price code on the back and the misspelt ‘Ossie’ on the inner gatefold (neither are on later versions)

Condition (1-5) Vinyl / Audio / Inner = 4.00 /4.00
Notes: The vinyl is very nice shape visually – a little light marking which is mostly only noticeable when tilted in strong light. A couple of small marks are slightly more visible but still all are superficial. In normal light retains a nice gloss and looks lightly played. The vinyl probably rates a little higher than the score given in appearance and a little lower in audio so this copy suited to a collector more interested in visual appearance Audio - there is no deterioration to the sound quality when played tested at a decent volume. I have listened to many original vertigo copies and while the quality of the sound itself is often superb, they nearly always play with quite a lot of clicking, popping and heavy crackle and often skips or repeats – even copies that visually look absolutely perfect / mint. (be very careful when spending mega money on ‘mint’ copies that have only been visually assessed). This copy is a decent example with no skips or repeats whatsoever. Just has some of the usual static / crackle in places, mostly noticeable in some quiet sections and between tracks. More noticeable on the opening tracks of each side but then improves. (only had a quick wipe so may improve further with a good clean) Still a very enjoyable listen, it has a lovely deep, rich, warm sound that only comes from these original pressings Cover is in nice condition. A bit of wear to the corner tips, and a printed initial in one corner which is very small and faded, odd little rub. Otherwise a nice example with limited light general wear only and no major damage - no tears, no folds, no seam splits, no writing and the spine nice and square, undamaged and fully readable. A nice example compared to others as these original matt finish unlaminated covers are super prone to wear Inner cover – some browning in colour, couple of small tears to one side (around the inner clear poly circle, seams are fine). Decent example of an original swirl inner. Labels are clean with no damage or writing.
A nice original copy of this legendary album. Honestly assessed – full description plus play test above

Grading:
I will be grading critically to avoid disappointment. (scale at bottom of page) In my experience there is no such thing as a used record that has no marking at all, if you choose to look closely enough! Hence nothing will be described as mint.

Still expect no or minimal impact on audio. 3 = Some heavier marks / scratches. Expect them to be audible and slightly detract from the overall listening experience. 2 = Heavy scratches / marks.
