Original Warner Bros. Records promotional radio station release of Black Sabbath’s “Paranoid”. This promotional copy pressed in California at the Columbia Records, Santa Maria, CA pressing plant is absolutely unique and perhaps, the only copy that comes in such combination. As a rule, the front of the promotional cover has either the hype sticker or the timing strip, one or the other. Throughout many years of collecting, we had never come across the promotional copy of this album which would simultaneously have the “Contains the hit…IRON MAN” Printed in U.S.A. hype sticker with the WS 1887 catalog number and “Warner Bros. Records Radio Station Service Not For Resale” timing strip. What makes this promotional copy even rarer is the fantastic official advertisement baggy with a large red “A WARNER BROS. SOUND BUY!” banner and Warner Bros. WB shield logo. This copy looks just phenomenal! Original Warner Bros. Records white labels with the “Promotional Not For Sale” banner, WB shield logo and “WS 1887” catalog number. The full matrix numbers including the very early 1st -1B / -1B matrix numbers and the “S” factory identifier of the Santa Maria pressing plant as well as the Artisan Sound Recorders mastering company’s logo are as follows: Side 1 – WS-1887-39786-A-1B: Artisan Logo 1; Side 2 – WS-1887-39787-B 1B Artisan Logo 1. This promotional copy comes with the original “Distinguished Company” black and white inner sleeve.

The cover is graded as Excellent and would be Near Mint Minus if it wasn't due to the light shelf wear at the top of the front and back cover. Aside from that, the original "Warner Bros." baggy has done great job of preserving the cover. The gatefold interior is in Near Mint Minus condition. I grade the vinyl as Very Good Plus. It's in stunning condition and retains its glossy factory lacquer. The vinyl only has a few very light non-feelable surface hairlines as well as scuffs from the original inner sleeve which is in Near Mint condition. The snow white labels are in beautiful Near Mint condition. The vinyl sounds great only having some very light occasional static. Track 1 of Side 1 has a couple of very light ticks, which probably will disappear if you change the balance of your tonearm. Most likely, the static also could get reduced or go away if the record was professionally cleaned using a VPI cleaning machine.
