Released in 1970, this was Sabbath's second Lp, and one which was destined to spiral them upwards and on to fame and fortune.
This is the album that along with Led Zeppelin II forged the way for the british heavy metal bands. In 1970 you were either a Zep fan or a Sabbath fan, it was not cool to like both.
Paranoid was an incredible LP and certainly features the band at their heaviest. If the first Sabbath album was a landmark, then Paranoid was to become an icon of british rock. from the superb opening track War Pigs, the album hurtles along through the single Paranoid, and ending side one with the superb Iron Man. In the middle of all of this is the gentle and at the time unsabbath like Planet Caravan, which sounded more like a bit of folk rock or psych rock. Side 2 opens up with the haunting Electric Funeral,a dn finishes in style with Faries wear boots.
The album accentuates that superb heavy wah wah pedal used by many bands at this time, but perfected by Sabbath.
The sleeve on this LP is a bit of an anomoly. Most copies that I have seen of this Lp have has a matt finish to the surface, but here we have a fully laminated gatefold, front and back. Incrdibly it is still in outstanding condition. The spine is the sharpest and flattest I have seen on an album of this type. No heavy creases anywhere on the cover front or back just a couple of light lines in the laminate, but nothing untoward, and certainly nothing to deter from the overall staggering quality of the sleeve, which grades a very strong EX+/NM
The inner sleeve is the original spiral/swirl sleeve , polylined and in perfect condition.
The LP labels are in super condition. No spindle hole wear, and virtually spider line free. I am not exagerating when I suggest this LP has only had a few plays in its 34 years. It has been very very carefully handled and looked after.
The vinyl gleams like new, and from the silent run in groove, the LP blasts off with the opening track War Pigs. Silent linking grooves throughout, and what you have is a rare example of a classic LP in a stunning Mint minus condition. No distortion, groove wear, and only the very very occasional light pop. This is a true collecible grade LP and certainly one that would not need upgrading in any collection.
