Description
Some records make you stop because they’re rare. Others make you stop because they’re weird. Then there are albums like Operation by Birth Control, which somehow manage to be both.
If you’ve spent any time digging through German progressive and Krautrock records, you already know Birth Control were never interested in playing it safe. By the time Operation arrived, the band had fully embraced the heavier, darker side of progressive rock—blending hard rock muscle, extended compositions, psychedelic textures, and the adventurous spirit that made early-’70s German music unlike anything coming out of Britain or America.
And then there’s that cover.
Love it or hate it, Heinz Dofflein’s surreal insect artwork has become one of the most recognizable—and talked about—pieces of Krautrock album art ever released. It’s unsettling, unforgettable, and exactly the kind of sleeve collectors stop to examine every time they flip past it.
This is the 1972 German second edition (RE) on the legendary Ohr label, still retaining all of the strange charm that made these early pressings so collectible. It’s a fantastic opportunity to own an authentic German issue without chasing the far scarcer first edition.
Condition
* Vinyl: NM- / Excellent. Clean glossy surfaces consistent with a once or twice played record. A very strong-playing copy.
* Jacket: VG+. Light shelf and edge wear consistent with age. Presents beautifully with solid seams and vibrant artwork.
