This is the Mercury pressing which preceded the Clef 10 inch pressing which used the same number. Norman Granz prior to forming his own company had a distribution deal with Mercury which ended in 1953. This is her first LP for him and probably the first ever Billie Holiday LP.
The record has the "trumpet" on a black and silver, deep groove label on both sides. Side A of the record is VG-. There is a scratch from the end of the first track to a little way into the last track. There are also a lot of superficial scuffs. Side B is VG. There are a lot of scuffs which are superficial and not into the grooves. I played most of the first side and spot played the second. Surprisingly, it played better than it looked, which early 10 inch records almost never do. The scratch on the first side after one pop was not a serious problem. The side played with light to moderate surface noise of the crackling with ticks type. The noise was well below the level of the music and not very intrusive. Side B, after a fairly rough start on the first track which crackled and ticked fairly loudly for about a minute, played slightly better. Overall, the record played VG and quite well for a ten inch record of its vintage. A decent playing record which was enjoyable to listen to.
The cover is VG+. Seams and spine are intact. with moderate wear. Spots of heavy wear on two corners. The David Stone Martin cover (one of his all time best, I think!) looks nice with some moderate wear. The back has some heavier wear noticable on the picture of Billie and there are barely noticeable pencil notations above the names of the musicians listing their instruments in a abbreviated form.

This record and all the other 10 inch Lps I am listing this week were play graded using a stereo cartridge. They would all play better and with less noise usinga mono cartridge.
