Description
Bill Evans Trio--Waltz for Debby X 2. With Scott LaFaro (b), Paul Motian (d). Recorded at the Village Vanguard June 25, 1961.
Stereo Riverside RS 9399 (US) Stereo RLP 9399/SMJ-6118 (1st Japanese Press) On the dead wax: matrix numbers end with "1 1 1" indicative of 1st Press. Produced from an original master.
U.S. Original Vinyl: VG or VG+... A-Side: The only surface noise on the album is at the start of the 1st cut which has some scattered low-volume ticks and two louder clicks. The 2nd cut is excellent with just one louder click and a couple of very low ticks, mostly perfect. The third track is mainly fine until the last third where a visible scratch kicks in, causing intermittent (not consecutive) clicks, a couple very audible, some very low. B-Side: The 1st track plays well with just some scattered low-volume ticks. The 2nd cut has more clicks of varying audibility, one fairly-loud. The 3rd cut has a few very low-volume ticks and one fairly-loud click but mostly fine. Side B would have to grade at least VG+. Covers: VG++... Some rubbing along the edges, some age-related yellowing and a small stain on the back. No seam splits, no significant fraying, no ring-wear, overall a very nice jacket.
Japanese 1st Press Vinyl: NM...There is a kind of streak on the A-side of the vinyl but it is purely cosmetic. The record plays beautifully, without defect, although of course I might have missed a tiny tick somewhere. (But miss it I did, it sounded flawless.) Superlative sound quality and (let me emphasize) not a reprint edition but made from an original master. (If the sound quality is inferior to the 1st US press, the difference is certainly not great.) Covers: VG++... There is a pretty insignificant crease on the bottom of the front cover, as well as a few spots of discoloration and a shadow of ring-wear. One corner is slightly frayed and there is a bit of rubbing along the spine. The back is fine, extremely clean. Structurally intact, glossy, and overall quite nice.
Combined shipping is always available with no mark-up--you just pay for what it costs to ship (and of course the more disks the less per record).
Packaging includes new audiophile inner sleeve, original inner sleeve, new outer sleeve, cardboard padding, bubble-wrap and a thick cardboard record box.
