Big Star - In The Street (single mix) / When My Baby's Beside Me - ADA 2902
Signed by Andy Hummel original bass player for Big Star.
Andy's signature appears on the label of the side featuring "When My Baby's Beside Me".
It is signed "JA Hummel" which is the initials for his name 'John Andrew Hummel'.
The signature looks to be signed with a ball point pen.
I acquired this autographed 45 single roughly 22 years ago from someone who claimed to be an acquaintance of Andy in which given where this person lived in relation to where Andy was living seemed plausible.
In the absence of having the signature authenticated by some signature verification authority, I recently reached out to Jody Stephens (drummer of Big Star) at Ardent Records (via his public email address on the Ardent website) with pictures of the two Andy Hummel autographed 45 single records I possess and asked Jody if he thought the signatures were real.
Jody wrote me back the following day and confirmed to me (in his opinion) that it looked like Andy's signature to him!
*That is not saying Jody says Andy signed it but (my understanding is) that Jody is saying it looks like Andy's autograph to Jody.
At last, I had confirmation from someone who would be able to recognize Andy's signature.
Based on what Jody told me and the interaction I had with the person who I received this from, it leaves no doubt in my mind that Andy signed this.
I will include a copy of that email exchange between Jody and I with private names and private email addresses redacted.
I have included photos of everything in this sale I could think of.
This 45 record has been stored flat on a shelf in a paper sleeve within a plastic sleeve in my closet for 22 years and always stored in a climate controlled, non smoking environment.
To my knowledge this record has been played under 5 times in my possession in 22 years time.
