This 1975 work from electronic composer Bernard Parmegiani deals with subtle abstractions of resonating tones. Mostly quiet permutations of sound, this effective electronic music is a study of sonority and complexity, making this one of the more striking academic electronic works from the pioneering French label Ina GRM. Like Luc Ferrari and Francios Bayle, the composer explores electronics and acoustic transformation in a narrative work, rather than simply exploring the phenomenon of electronics. His work stems from a deeply intellectual composition technique: Everything put into the work is studied and considered with great concentration, and the evolving structure creates an organic flow to the work. De Natura Sonorum is a defining work in the acousmatic music movement, and comes highly recommended to those interested in the pioneers of avant-garde electronic composition.
