Bruno Walter was instrumental in shaping the interpretive style of the conductors. Walter's interpretation of Beethoven's Sixth Symphony is perhaps the most significant ever recorded - his view of the work sounds like a piece of literature or a poem, but that's great and so perfectly in tune with the music that this recording has become a guideline.

And once again, Analogue Productions has edited a classic for a premium reissue of this famous LP. Ryan Smith of Sterling Sound has remastered this album from the original analog bands. The paint films were galvanized by our in-house Quality Record Pressings and pressed on 200g vinyl. The old-school Stoughton flip cover with a hand-applied printed sheet, recognisable by the typical fold, was enhanced by a few pretty, seldom-released photos by Walter from Sony's music archives. Every detail of this new edition radiates quality.

Beethoven's Symphony No. 6 in F major Op. 68 ("Pastorale"), written in 1808, is considered one of the most influential of the famous composer. Unlike his other works, which have been given many names, Beethoven has from the beginning decided that his Sixth should be titled "Pastorale" or "Memories of Country Life". The musical approach to the forces of nature had inspired Beethoven.

In his late years, Bruno Walter recorded with the Columbia Symphony Orchestra stereo recordings of his repertoire; this was an ensemble of professional musicians who had set Columbia Records for such recordings.

Originally released in 1958, this recording sounds fresh to date, with spacious soundstage, convincing depth and a remarkable sense of 'air' and presence. Simply because of Walter's dynamic, fluid interpretation, which incorporates both variable tempos and intensified emphasis, results in one of the most passionate and impressive versions ever recorded of this symphony.
